i have a 4090 + 7800x3d with 48gb of 7000mt/s memory, however when i play overwatch im struggling to keep 300fps and stay at like 40% gpu usage.

i have tried everything from force enabling resizable bar in profile inspector and resetting windows, but it just stays at 40% roughly and sometimes goes over 300.

i have a 360hz monitor and 300fps is fine to play on, but theres clearly something going on when benchmarks show my same gpu with a worse CPU capping out at 600FPS on higher settings than i play at at 1440p. if anyone has any suggestions as to what may be going on id appreciate it.

If your GPU usage is at just 40%, that usually indicates that something else in your system is the limiting factor.

You say you've got DDR5-7000 memory. How did you validate that it was stable with the 7800X3D?

Most AM5 CPUs can't go above DDR5-6400 while maintaining a 1:1 Infinity Fabric ratio. Even getting DDR5-6400 to work can be non-trivial. DDR5-6000 is recommended because it's the level where 99.9% of CPUs can achieve it without issues.

One thing to keep in mind is that long-running multiplayer games change performance profiles over time so if you are looking at a benchmark from several years ago it might be somewhat irrelevant.

That said, one thing to check is your RAM settings. For Ryzen 7000 series, DDR5-6000 CL30 is actually the ideal spot and going to 7000 might actually worsen gaming performance because it forces the infinity fabric clock to drop down to half-speed.

I can run ow at over 300fps on a 5070 (and on a 3070 too!) so clearly something is wrong, might be your ram as mentioned.

But also what's the graphics settings?  I think if you set everything to low it won't use much of anything (I always max it out basically... It's a 2016 game after all!)

600FPS on higher settings than i play

Yeah, that might be part of the issue...

The game is capped at 600 FPS.
