Hey all, I’m looking for some headphone recommendations please.

I do not want:

On Ear’s,

A headset with a microphone.

Surround Sound

I’m looking for a headset to use for Gaming.

I play a lot of FPS games, so I want good directional audio.

I have a budget of about £130

I was considering the:

DT 990 Pro,

or the

Razer black shark v2 pro, (Would just turn off surround sound and not use the mic)

I’m more leaning towards the 990 Pros,

Are any of them a good choice?
Let me know if there’s others that are better

Whats the ohm of the DT 990 Pro?

Don't get the Razer. They're not even remotely in the same league.

I'd also consider the DT 177x Go, if they're decently priced where you are.

I'd look at the Fio FT1

I've heard that the DT990 is very sharp but have never heard them.  I know the 770 isn't and neither is the 880.  Consider looking into some Sennheisers, they have great build quality and will last forever while sounding great.  They've made so many models that not all of them are winners, but if you stick to something well regarded it'll be difficult to go wrong.

I would do some research instead of blind trusting a recommendation.  Figure out if you want open or closed back, open has wider soundstage but closed has more bass and less sound leakage.  The traits you are most interested are soundstage and imaging for FPS games.  Find reputable reviewers and see what they say about it.  If you already have a headphone then see if it has been reviewed to put words into experience.

I could probably get the Fio. Are they definitely worth it?

would I need an amp or anything like that with them?

I have been trying to do research, but I don’t really know what I’m looking for. Everyone recommends gaming headsets even tho they aren’t good.

250 or 80 I think

That's wildly different. 80 is easy to drive, 250 not so much. I'd make sure before you buy, unless you also have an amp.

There’s two different ones you can get I mean, sorry my mistake for bad wording. You can get an 80om, and a 250om

But I don’t want to get them unless they actually sound good, for fps games. Not like I can test the audio 😭

Honestly if you're not testing them side by side, you won't know anyway. I'd just go with the 80ohm DT990s and enjoy them.

I have been trying to do research, but I don’t really know what I’m looking for. Everyone recommends gaming headsets even tho they aren’t good.

They are very sensitive IE: db per volt or mw so don't need much voltage, they are low impedance IE 32ohm so don't need much voltage.

I've never heard them myself but have heard really good thing's about them.  They have been compared to my Rode NTH-100 which I adore although they got lost in the fitlock breaking drama, which has been solved.  But across the board the FT1 is loved by reviewers.

I agree with this to some extent, for a first "real" pair of headphones almost anything will be an improvement to a gaming headset.  My first pair of headphones I was recommended was the HE-400i(2017) and in hindsight it's bland and flat, but at the time it was better than anything I'd had.

To the OP, the DT990 80ohm will be a great headphone, or the FT1 or many other hit's.  The DT990 is quoted as being fatiguing in the treble region but I've only had a headphone or two that was to sharp for me to wear as a daily.  Chances are it won't bother you.

I would also recommend getting an apple dongle dac directly from apple.com (I bought half a dozen of them from the apple store on amazon and I wasn't a fan, got just one from apple direct and instantly saw what the rave was about)

Audio go Brrrrrr
