I'm Going to be getting a Fractal Design R4 Mid Tower Case for a future build. I simply want to know if that case is ok for ACX cooled GPU's, considering that ACX dumps the heat into the case and ACX needs efficient case airflow. Ive heard that if you have a sound suppressed case (which the R4 is), you should stay with a reference cooler. Also, I will not be SLI'ing, i have heard the you need to stick with reference if you SLI as well.

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Whoever told you that should be smacked.

Regarding your question; there are other cases that are better optimized for airflow, but it won't be a big deal.

Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow; Motherboard: MSI ZZ490 Gaming Edge; CPU: i7 10700K @ 5.1GHz; Cooler: Noctua NHD15S Chromax; RAM: Corsair LPX DDR4 32GB 3200MHz; Graphics Card: Asus RTX 3080 TUF; Power: EVGA SuperNova 750G2; Storage: 2 x Seagate Barracuda 1TB; Crucial M500 240GB & MX100 512GB; Keyboard: Logitech G710+; Mouse: Logitech G502; Headphones / Amp: HiFiMan Sundara Mayflower Objective 2; Monitor: Asus VG27AQ

Was posted on the Anandtech forums, not my post, was just reading about it

The ACX cooler will be fine in the R4. I would recommend getting an ACX card because it cools better. I would also recommend taking off the covers on the top of the case to provide extra airflow.

Yea im gonna be taking off all the ModuVent panels

If I were going to do a 780 SLI build, I'd look for reference cards over aftermarket, simply because of the way they output their heat.

Depending on the PCIe spacing, I would go with an aftermarket card. It won't choke with an extra slot between the cards.

I mean, it makes sense. If ACX dumps heat into your case, 2 cards produce twice the heat. Hence, needing extremely good airflow, or reference cards that exhaust heat out the back of the case

I have two reference 780s and they can get pretty loud (nothing like 290x loud though). It's all on what you want. You can have lower internal temperatures by going with reference cards at the cost of noise, OR, hotter internal temperatures at the cost of relative silence.

Might just go with an aftermarket cooler altogether like an Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo III. Have heard those cool very well and are silent
