cs2 no longer connects to official servers unless you run linux version, but playing windows version gives better perf, and better than windows too. Also i couldnt get black mesa to run  on steamos (it only ran until the end of the train ride) thinking of trying a pirated version maybe.

I know it might not be secure, yeah vibecoding is cool but we shouldnt do smt unless we understand it and etc. thx but these disclaimers get old quick. maybe we shall be reminded frequently for we are stupid but i dont work at a nuclear powerplant.

Have you experiencing problems when you try gaming on Linux? Me I have almost no problems when I light gaming on Linux Mint distro. Please post it here.

Ive had Cyberpunk crash twice. Once I was able to close the game. The second time I had to restart my whole machine. I if happens again, Ill SSH in from another machine and check the logs, see if its the GPU driver.

Edit: Saw some info that the 590 driver from Nvidia is iffy. Rolled back to the 580 version to see if that make a difference.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

My experience is with the Steam Deck, which to my knowledge is pretty much the most compatible Linux gaming setup possible. I've had a handful of crashes in various situations, but then again I have also had a handful on Windows so it's not too bad. The only issue is compatibility. For a $300 handheld I'm, willing to put up with a certain amount of games not being able to work, but in an economy where a midrange setup might cost you $2000, I want it to be able to run whatever game I want.

Currently Playing: Doom (2016)

Currently Listening To: Proof, Led Zeppelin

So far my only problem recently is related to EA app being absolute ass to Linux/Proton/WINE.

I run Pop OS with just Steam/Proton, not much else. Running single-player games have been fine, I've only had a few problems like crashing or freezing. Gaming has been nearly the same experience as Windows 11, if not better. Just can't play many multiplayer games, but I'm not into multi-player games very much to know how they do. I did try to play a matchmaking game on Master Chief Collection once, and got far enough to look for players, but there was no one online at the time.

The only problems I have with Pop or Linux in general is a chronic issue where my games don't load or have very bad framerate if my PC has been idle for an hour. I think this is an issue with the workstation hardware and might be a communication issue between power saving mode and Pop. I also have choppy/static audio, but I also think this is a hardware issue rather than gaming issue, something related to the realtek audio device.

The only real problem I would have is for my second PC that has an Nvidia P600, it's a Pascal card and officially on legacy drivers, so I'm backed into a corner as far as what game I can play with future releases.

There are "known issues" with some GPU's/BIOS's returning from sleep states improperly - use an LLM* to see if your's is one of them, then you can start looking at kernel command line switches to turn of "problematic settings". I had similar issues if screen blanking triggered whilst I went to make a drink etc. I effectively added "turn of screen blanking" as part of my "gamemode" script.

*if you treat these things as nothing more than "an advanced search engine" they are actually useful.

Depends on what you want to play and your tolerance for modifying stuff for the sake of optimization. It was very rare that I found games that would just not launch, save for anti cheat nonsense. If I did have problems they were usually launcher related or something and would be fixed pretty quickly (usually). Really old games can require some custom DLLs to function, but that's not too dissimilar to windows honestly.

The most common problems I'd run into honestly was just poor performance. Not so much on modern titles, but some stuff from the mid 2000s to the 2010s would just run really poorly and I had to mess with wine or play with other translation layers to get it running properly. The benefit though is sometimes you'd also get poor performance in windows too and have no way to fix it so ymmv.

Yeah I found that one out. Turned all that stuff off in the BIOS.
