I want to build a gaming pc for around $850 and I was wondering which build will perform better (BF4 on high settings, preferably 1080p)

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/NNJA_C4PO/saved/DzHRsY  an i5 build with a 750ti

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/NNJA_C4PO/saved/htrmP6 an fx-6350 with a r9 270x

or maybe there is something I am missing and I need a completely different build.

If the monitor is taking up too much money for a really nice build, I can just use an hdmi graphics card and play on one of my tv's but I would prefer a 1920/1080 monitor for my desk.

The 270x is better, so the 2nd build will perform better. I also like the monitor on the 2nd build more because it's bigger. I have a 21.5 inch monitor myself and while I have no problem with it, I still think if it's bigger I'd be more happy.

Much better build:

I changed the monitor to a better one (really nice IPS monitor). The GPU is now a R9 280X (much more powerful). The FX 6350 is not worth it, just get an FX 6300 and OC it a little bit. The mobo I picked is a rock, and I changed the PSU to a semi-modular Corsair 80+ Bronze (that Raidmax was a time bomb). I still kept your wifi card and peripherals. The color scheme is pure black, get some white LEDs and you will end up with a much better looking system. I would save $20 more and get a nicer case.

Nice build. I dont know much about AMD CPU so I cant really help here...

Nice build. I dont know much about AMD CPU so I cant really help here...

They are the same CPU, same cache, same everything. The 4350 and 6350 are FX refresh CPus, they come with higher clock (400mhz) and a higher TDP (125W). Just better binned that's all. However a FX 6300 can OC to 4.0ghz with a decent cooler. The mobo I picked is ok, ATX, decent chipset, Sata 6.0gbps, USB 3 (front and back), It can handle about 150W TDP (decent OC to that CPU), has crossfire support, the PCIe Lanes are correctly placed (can put a NH-D15 without clearance issues),gigabit ethernet, 5.1 'ok' audio and 4 memory slots. It's brown and ugly but it costs $65.

Regarding CPU in games it's going to be more than enough, being the GPU, the bottleneck on almost all of the current games. The R9 280X is going to be beast on 1080p.

Its a littke too far out of my budget though.

You said $850 with monitor and perihperals.

I made a build up here, (second comment) at your pricepoint, did you see it?

I saw what you made and I decided to raise you $100.

Im going to have to go super pro to raise this money but this build will probably last longer: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/NNJA_C4PO/saved/JYbwrH

any opinions?

A Z87 board is used to overclock a CPU, just because it has the possibility to mess with clocks and voltages. However pairing it with a non K cpu makes no sense, where a  H87 or H97 motherboard is cheaper and has most of the needed features.

You are mixing a Haswell Refresh CPU, with a Z87 motherboard, you need to see if a bios update will support the processor, some mobos do, other not.

Is there any particular reason you went with that monitor? The IPS one I suggested you, is very good. You will have a much better experience compared to a TN monitor.

Going from a possible R9 280X to a GTX 760 is a downgrade, on a gaming build, the main component is the GPU, Is there any reason you missed out on the AMD stuff? An intel i5 is going to be better, but for games it doesn't matter, you are spending twice there, just for 1-5 fps, while the GPU is going to be a major change.

That one look fine to me. Again you can get a ~600W semi mudolar PSU from Corsair instead since you dont need 720W for a system like this (why 720W though? Usually it's 700 then 750...), which will be about 40-50USD.

Dat PSU, get a 550-650W PSU, from a decent brand- The CX Corsair Modular 600W one is even cheaper, and it's a better unit.

The CPU cooler you picked will not support much of an overclock, and it has a built in fan. You cannot swap that fan if it breaks or you want a better one. Get something like a Cooler Master Hyper T4, which is very cheap, but decent enough. It will cool much better than that Zalman thingy.

Getting 2133mhz is not going to have any benefit, saving a couple of bucks on the ram always helps.

Personally, i would change the case, something with better airflow and a good couple fan mounts.NZXT H230  are selling for cheap now, the Source 220 is always a good budget choice too.
