This is my friends PC, he built it a few years back, and he has been at college. He takes it with him home on break and then back to college. But he didn't use it over last break so it just sat around for about 2 months unused. Then when he tried to start it up it won't turn on. To clarify, the Pc starts up, but the screen won't come on.

Now I also built a computer and have a bunch of extra things so I tested everything I could think of. I tried: a different HDMI, a different port (Display port), a new monitor, unplugging everything, checking the PSU, the ram, the GPU, Fans, motherboard reboot (took out battery + all power), the RED PSU switch in both positions, and tried both the motherboard HDMI and GPU HDMI.

Nothing has worked, the PC still starts up but the screen just won't show anything but no signal.

What are my options?

If y'all can't help me fix this, where could I take it in the state of VA that could help me fix it?

The specs are:

2060

i5-10400

16GB ram 2300

Thermaltake tr2 600w psu

cooler master CPU fans

3x case fans

ACER B460 MB

Where does he live. Whats the mains voltage for power there?

Psu is cooked here if you did 110v on 220v its insta dead.

Nope its not dead, I saw that on google too. Everything turns on, everything appears to run fine, its only not displaying anything on a monitor.

I have no idea about the voltage around here, its the US.

The PC started on 220 its whole life, its only after the issues that I tested the 110 mode.

That's a bit ambiguous.

Most modern PSUs don't really have a switch for 120 to 240 volt. They have input range of 100 to 240 volts at 50-60Hz.

Your confidence walk ahead of your comprehension, waving proudly.

Sorry, I fixed that. But I asked multiple questions and not one of you have answered those questions, you have only got caught up on small details that don't matter to much.

Sometimes small details are the ones that matter.

well voltage in the U.S. is 110/115, so it's been set wrong.

Running it with the switch set to 220 shouldn't damage it, but if it's been that way the whole time, then sits dormant for a couple months, who knows?

I do know way back in the '90's we often dreaded turning off a server that had been running for a couple years nonstop. There was always a fair chance the psu would die when turned back on.

Interesting, if that were the case would I still be able to power on the PC? Because I am still able to get the fans going the GPU fans going and all the RGB turns on. And I'll make sure he knows from now on its 115.

Thermaltake tr2 600w PSU, now will you have the magical solution?

Oh that unit is hot grbage. With the symptoms you describe it simply sounds like the usual issue with that junk psu ans it just died outta nowhere as these do. Theyll give standby power still but wont allow a proper start.

So do you think that if we just buy another PSU (a better one) that it should start up and run just fine? Do you think it will be plug and play or will I need to do anything extra?
