Davinci Resolve issues

Have tried my absolute best to solve this myself, but nearly every single reddit thread I've found has had the comment section filled with either people being obnoxious, completely not understanding the question, or reacting like the OP has seven heads and is speaking gibberish.

 

Problem: 

Adjust video clip duration to match audio duration 

Video Clip 1: 3 seconds

Audio clip 1: 12 seconds. 

 

Adjusting the duration of Video clip 1 to 12 sec just takes 12 seconds of the source instead. Adjusting clip speed to match length does nothing. 

 

Cut and slide remaining source down timeline creates ghost, and adjusting video clip 1 duration does the same behaviour as before. 

If ghost media is removed: source returns to original position. 

 

Cutting clip 1, moving to a second timeline, and extending duration has same behaviour, just extending the clip with original source. 

 

Is there something I am missing on how to do this properly?

 Would ideally like to not have to render each individual clip, make it a source, and then go One-by-one changing duration and rendering again.

How do you want to do this? Do you want to adjust speed? You can't just make clips the same length without adjusting speed or showing more/less of one clip.

What do you mean by ghost? The empty space in thet track?

Imma bout to crash out, "Ripple Timeline" AND "Stretch to Fit" BOTH have to be selected for it to work. 

I'm getting Python flashbacks. 

 

Ffs, Imma bout to make a tutorial video on that to add to the list of "tutorial videos that don't suck" to upload to YouTube. 

 

 There should be some sort of "sync duration" option that's easy to find.

Literally. Like my experiences with troubleshooting threads have been either "oh shoot fam, I gotchu, here's how you do the thing" or advocating for self harm or harassment, and exactly zero in-between.

15 years ago a PC savy friend of mine described Reddit as PC Cancer. He has yet to be dis-proven or change his opinion. Want Advice on how to fix pcs this is ya best bet.

 

But ignore me im a idiot and just here for the free coffee and Donuts.
