Recently I sold my RTX 4060 Ti because I finally wanted to upgrade, but I did not realize before selling it that the GPU market is terrible right now. Now I am unsure whether I should wait for prices to drop on the 9070 XT, buy an RTX 5070 or 5060 Ti 16GB, or consider something else entirely. I only play at 1080p, but I have a 280Hz monitor and try my best to squeeze out as many frames as possible by lowering graphics settings, and I also prefer to play at native resolution. That probably suggests I do not really need an Nvidia card. However, when I owned an AMD 6900 XT in the past, I had a horrible experience with microstuttering, and games never felt smooth no matter what I did. I tried every troubleshooting step imaginable and even upgraded several other PC components, but nothing fixed the issue. Eventually I gave that card to a friend, and in return he bought me a 4060 Ti 8GB because I was completely fed up. As soon as I switched back to Nvidia, my games became smoother than ever. Because of that, I am definitely biased toward Nvidia, but it still hurts knowing that the 9070 and 9070 XT are technically better cards. The problem is that they cost far too much, and at 1080p the performance difference between the 9070 non XT and the RTX 5070 is so small that it barely matters. At this point it feels like my real options are an RTX 5070 at MSRP, a 9070 XT that is overpriced, or something else entirely that you think would make sense for my situation.

**quick edit: I only can spend 600$ (and thats after tax), I would consider spending for the 9070 xt if it was a good card but thats not happening I dont think.
My specs:

ryzen 7 5800x3d

32gb ddr4 ram

asus thor 850w 80+ plat psu

2tb m.2 wd black

asus b550 f gaming motherboard

corsair h150i cooler

gpu nonexistent.

would appreciate any help I can get: and thank you in advance.

 That suggests that you'll be better off with NVIDIA AI tech, especially the upcoming variable frame gen.

Nani? Who said that and in what context? There are games that may perform differently/better on one card vs. the other, but on average, they are equal. Before factoring in all the bells and whistles of the AI, which is the area dominated by Team Green.

 The only actual upgrade will start for you at the xx70 XT/Ti level. So aim at that range. But don't expect to run new/recent titles at close to 240fps at native res.

But is it worth the 700 - 800$ price tag?

In the market of the last 5 years, I think it totally does. 100-150$ over XT? Still worth it, because the AI tech is too good to pass on. I heard the same arguments for 4070ti as it was at 650$, take it as you will.

I would of kept the card you sold, any relevant upgrade now would be going for a 5070ti in my opinion.

Edit: Don't wait for the market to change because it won't any time soon.

@SergeySwigs

I don't feel entitled to giving anyone the advice on how to spend their hard earned money, but I'd seriously consider a 5070 Ti in your situation. I am currently running one in my own build and so far it's been a good experience. I don't spend much time playing games, but from what I've seen in the few titles I own it's a surprisingly competitive piece of hardware. As Timme said, it is safer to go Nvidia due to their drivers (that's 1) and two, because of the growing importance of AI in the tech world. You may love it, you may hate it, but the truth is that you probably will end up using some of it sooner or later. And team green will offer you a better experience with it, especially if you take a look at how quickly their DLSS has evolved. I see that you've set your limit to $600 and according to PCPartPicker you can't currently pick one up in that budget so here's a problem, but I still wanted to write this. I'm not an expert by any means, but from what I can tell the 70Ti is the best of the cards you've listed all things concidered (except for the price) and would last you the longest while also being reliable.
