GPU Recommendations for my CPU

Go to solution Solved by Kobathor,

I don't see a budget, but I will give the best generic advice that the best GPU is the most expensive one you can afford, to a point. The 7900X could pair with a 9070 XT, 5070 ti, 5080, 5090... depends what is available and you are willing to buy. Graphics cards will go up in price this year, and probably soon.

If you have $700 US, I'd at least get a 9070 XT, as it plays 1440p pretty well native and gets really high FPS with upscaling. The 5070ti is better but you'll spend more for the privilege. I wouldn't go cheaper than those two, if you can afford it.

As for monitors, 27" 1440p OLED monitors are having their heyday right now. Great displays for great prices. Just make sure to get a newer generation screen as the older OLED monitors don't get very bright and might have text fringing issues (this is why I returned my first-gen OLED monitor a couple years ago). RTINGS has very comprehensive reviews to help you make a decision.

Hello everyone, wanted to ask for some advice -- built myself a new PC back in April 2025, as the previous PC stopped working suddenly. There was also an Easter-season sale, so I got some pretty good deals in the process.

  • Case: Be Quiet! Pure Base 501 Airflow Window Tempered (Black)
  • Motherboard: MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI (sAM5)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 4.7(5.6)GHz 64MB
  • Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black
  • RAM: Kingston DDR5 64GB (2x32GB) 6000Mhz FURY Beast Black
  • GPU: Asus ROG GeForce RTX 2060 STRIX OC GDDR6 6GB
  • PSU: Be Quiet! Power Zone 2 1000W (BP008EU)

I kept the 2060 from my old build (as I didn't have enough financial resources at that time), so it’s struggling to keep up with the new CPU and current line-up of games. As there are still sales over on my side, I’m planning to buy a GPU -- thus, wanted to ask what would be the best GPU with my current CPU, without changing it to the newest generation?

I mostly use the system for video-editing (2K/4K footage), gaming, screen/game recording (potential livestreams), 3D-projects and occasional VFX.

P.S. Planning to buy a new monitor as well (haven't decided whether it'll be IPS or OLED), it'll be either 1920x1080 (FullHD) or 2560x1440 (2K QHD). Not looking into 4K as of yet.

You can actually throw any GPU at this system without worrying about a CPU bottleneck.

If you move to 1440p that becomes even less CPU dependant.

At 1440p you can get a 5090 without worrying about your CPU holding it back.

So in other words: Get the fastest GPU you can afford.

A RTX 5070 Ti / 5080 or a AMD 9070 XT would be a fantastic pair with this system for many years to come.

I didn't mention a budget since I didn't think it would be necessary, just wanted to get all possible recommendations before settling on something -- but, in this case, let's say the budget is approximately 1500 USD

RTX 5070 Ti and a 2560 x 1440 monitor.

I'd personally temper this back.

I know he said 1500, but in Ukraine that isn't near USD and their income level is MUCH lower.  If he didn't have enough in April, he's most certainly using every dime he has now.

I'd back down to 9070XT and no monitor for now.

I'm not really using every dime available -- been saving up ever since the upgrade, it just so happens that I got my paycheck early and wanted to go for it and buy the GPU right now while there's still a chance.

I was thinking about 9070XT, but, while doing my own research, it was said that the RTX 50 Series tend to be the safest choice (although I don't fully like the fact that it's becoming more AI focused, but what can I do about it)

Besides that, not planning to get a monitor right now -- just sometime later, maybe in a few months.

I'd max with 5070TI then, as you say.

I just find it so hard to believe that AMD is THAT bad at those projects... STILL.
