Ethernet over power

Hi from the uk.

 

Recently moved rooms around meaning that the router is now in a different room. When the pc was in the same room and was able to hardwire direct to the pc I was getting best part of 950mb (were on a 1000mb plan)… 

 

now I’ve moved I have used the Ethernet over copper adapters to get the signal from one room to another and I’m now only getting about 150mb… I know I’m probably going to lose some bandwidth but didn’t think it would be that significant, where am I going wrong?? Wa son rocket league the other day and the ping was in single figures so latency isn’t an issue, just the speed.

 

Both cables are cat8 40gbps 2000mhz from router to adapter and adapter to pc.

 

To put it in context, I’m able to run an ookla speed test on my iPad and get back over 600mb (Wi-Fi obviously slower normally)…

What adapters exactly? Powerline ethernet depens a lot on how the house's electricity is wired too.

Nah, 150Mbps is about the most I've ever seen out of Powerline in real-world use. The technology has largely been supplanted by Wifi.

 

To be fair, unless you're moving data to/from a NAS or something, 150Mbps is quite enough for normal Internet use.

This. The beauty of powerline adapters is they cut the network latency down to zero, just like a wired connection (because it is wired). Although, as you similarly say, it is hardly noticeable anymore with wifi 6+.
