Hi,

Didn't know where else to reach out to get recommendations for 3D printers.

I am looking for something upwards of $1000, but i am really just looking something with good value that's reliable.

I have minimal experience with 3D printing specifically. As I'm technically inclined i don't mind buying a kit if there's significant savings, but preferably a full solution with minimal maintenance and tinkering. It should be able to do self-levelling and an AMS system is very welcome. Not so much for multicolored prints, but more the convenience. The possibility of using engineering filament would be nice, but I'm not sure that's reserved for more high-end printers than what I'm looking for.

I'd be using it for hobby and DIY projects / prototyping.

I've been eyeing Bambu lab printers such as P2S combo, but the firmware news earlier this year has me concerned about it being locked down in the future and i am not really familiar with other brands.

I am from Denmark if that matters 🙂

Any info and help is greatly appreciated!

if you have prusa money, prusa is a very strong option.

i got the mk4s as a kit, and their instructions for assembly are probably better than any kit you've ever assembled, the process is fun and rewarding, in clear cut steps, and you get to eat candy along the way.

i migrated from a prehistoric wanhao i3 clone to a prusa mk4s this year, and i'll never not be impressed that i can just drag an stl into the slicer, press print, and *know* it will be done when the slicer tells me it will be done.

only thing i should say is that for the mk4s the MMU kit is VERY clumsy, it's clear that if you want to do multi material, their solution for that is the XL.

Thank you! I've found the Prusa naming scheme a bit confusing so I was not really sure if you could get a printer kit or you had to buy a basic one and upgrade 😅

It's a little unfortunate the multi material is subpar, but I can definitely live with it.

The idea of an enclosed printer was appealing as I have pets, and I fear they would find it intriguing to mess with the print. Maybe I'm just being concerned for no reason. Do you know if the Prusa Core One is comparable to the Mk4s?

it's more so that the MMU kit takes a LOT of space. (like a full desk worth of space)

i have a mk4s with two cats, and neither seems to pay any attention to it, and it's sitting right next to a spot where one of the cats likes to nap.

but if you're worried.. they have an enclosure for the mk4s.

Ah, that does seem inconvenient, but I'll be getting a new desk for it so not that big of a deal

In that case i may be overthinking it 😄

Thanks a lot for your insight!

This so much. If you have prusa money spend it on prusa.

For mmu the xl is required basically.

I put a plastic bin over min. Got 2 big.bins, cut the bottom from one and glue em togheter. 11€ diy printer enclosure :p.

Then later I took some plexi wotk was tossing and made a better version.

My main issur with bambuu is that they are closing down their printers more and more. Its starting to look like the hp printer situation. So I avoid them. Good piece of kit but longevity has not always been great on their units whereas prusa literally uses their printers to bulk print their new printers and requested parts. The sooner to break stuff can just be printed spares of even 😛
