Are there any good soundcards that are Linux compatible? I'm finding contradictory stuff online. Some sites say that Creative Labs Sound blaster cards are, but Creative's own site says "no." I just want to find some better sound that what is on the motherboard for my new build.

Thanks for any help.

I might still have my Xonar DGX, old but I'll see if it works. They are still being sold even though they are over 10 years old.

Edit:  Couldn't find it, but my old C-Media based USB DAC works fine (Roccat Juke), so USB DAC might be the best option.

For affordable sound cards I know that the Sybasonic SD Dac is on par with high end motherboards.  Not sure about Linux compatibility but I'd imagine that going with an external USB device should drastically improve compatibility as they typically don't require drivers.  Also there is a much larger variety of external DAC/Amp's so there is more competition, larger selection and better prices.

Audio go Brrrrrr
