Fps always feels wrong

Go to solution Solved by Shaggi,

i ended up just flashing my bios to the newest version. This got rid of my FPS problem completely that ive been having issues with and at the same time lowered my CPU temps pretty drastically where before i had to undervolt to keep my cpu under manageable temps. so if anyone else is having this issue, Updating bios fixed pretty much everything for me.

my PC specs:
Motherboard: Msi PRO z790-p wifi
CPU: i9 14900k
GPU: asus 5070ti
ram: T-group DDR5 6000mhz
storage: idk but 4tb good drives
CPU cooler: rog ryoui II whatever
Display: 2 240hz monitors

i get great fps in any game i play but when i play the FPS always feels wrong. Itll show that im getting 200+ fps on 1440p high settings pretty much everywhere but when i actually play itll feel more like 60fps.

honestly ive tried pretty much everything from undervolting my cpu to where i have good temps all the time, to making sure XMP is on. Ive factory reset my pc, ive tried high AND low graphics. Nothing seems to fix it. kind of at a loss

Do you have any example of a game that feels wrong ?

Also, which overlay did you use to report the fps ? Can it also report frame time ?

Many monitors can show at which refresh rate they are operating when you access their OSD. At which refresh rate do your monitors operate ? You may have to activate or select some parameter to enable higher refresh rates.

Good luck !

any game, one game for example is apex legends, but i play everything on steam basically and it all feels the same. the overlay that i use to report FPS is just in the steam settings

i dont think i get shown frame time
both of my monitors are 240hz

my games will have moments when they are super smooth and actually feel like the FPS that i am being shown/ then it will have other times when it is clearly not the FPS im being shown.

i know i shouldnt have ANY issues with fps with my pc specs

Factory reset your PC?  How did you do this?

4TB good drives?  I assume NVMe?

Can you at least take a screen vid of this fps unsmoothness?

can you use MSI Afterburner to measure frame times?  Maybe that will capture the issue, as Steam's overlay isn't a diagnostic tool at all.

Most likely still on an old bios that would have killed your cpu due to the hardware defect it has.
