Budget (including currency): 1400 aud but 1200 aud for the actual parts and the rest for a monitor

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Valorant, CSGO, Most Hoyoverse games, Doom, Shaders w/minecraft, Elden ring and such.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Mostly looking for an all around good PC for my first one. NVIDIA gpu would be preferred as I do some off side 3d modelling but not a requirement.

I'm not sure what retailers you're buying from down there (so idk exact prices), but here's what I would generally go for:

If you're looking for good upgradability down the line, get an AM5 motherboard (B650/B850), and get a cheaper CPU like 7600X. Will be plenty for now and can be upgraded down the line. Get 32GB RAM, don't overspend on the essentials like case and PSU, and pour the rest of the budget into the GPU. Ideally GPU should be probably half your budget. You could try looking for used 30-series cards (like a used 3080?) to save a buck and still get great performance, as long as your power supply can handle it and you don't care too much about higher electricity costs over the long run.

If you don't care at all about upgrading, you can probably squeeze more performance per dollar by going for an AM4 build with a 5800X3D, but this really leaves you with no upgrade options down the line.

If you can give me a link to the store you're likely to be buying from, I can give you a bit of a more specific rec

Umart is the retailer I would buy from as most of my friends have bought from there and say they have good service and you get what you pay for.

I will be doing everything you said like 32 gb RAM but I really don't know where to find parts that are in that budget range. A used 3080 is feasible here at 600 AUD but will be hard. For the CPU maybe somewhere like aliexpress would be good but I would need to know where to get a trusted part from. I am planning to buy most of these parts a bit later down the line maybe in a month or so, which could lead to cheaper parts but who knows. Maybe 500 ish dollars for a GPU is alright though with the new 50 series of NVIDIA GPUs which I haven't looked into that much.

Just picked a few parts as a good build (but not hyper-optimized) off umart and got this:

[$314] CPU: Ryzen 7600 https://www.umart.com.au/product/amd-ryzen-5-7600-6-core-am5-5-1ghz-cpu-processor-with-wraith-stealth-cooler-100-100001015box-68285

[$145] Memory: Random kit of DDR5-6000 CL30 https://www.umart.com.au/product/klevv-32gb-2x16gb-kd5agu880-60a300l-fit-v-6000mhz-cl30-ddr5-black-83653

[$150] B650M Gigabyte motherboard https://www.umart.com.au/product/gigabyte-b650m-gaming-wifi-am5-matx-motherboard-b650m-gaming-wifi-75098

[$93] SSD 1TB Crucial P310 https://www.umart.com.au/product/crucial-p310-1tb-ct1000p310ssd8-pcie4-gen4-m-2-2280-nvme-ssd-79842

[$90] PSU https://www.umart.com.au/product/silverstone-attis-750r-750w-80-bronze-atx-3-1-power-supply-sst-at750r-bf-77972

[$480] RTX 4060: https://www.umart.com.au/product/asus-geforce-rtx-4060-dual-8g-v2-oc-graphics-card-dual-rtx4060-o8g-v2-79315

[$58] Silverstone mATX case: https://www.umart.com.au/product/silverstone-ld04-argb-usb-type-c-matx-case-black-sst-ld04-b-argb-81908

= Total Price: $1330, which is over your budget, but I can't really think of what I would cut here without really impacting performance. -- (you're really getting shafted down unda' with those component proices). You could try to look for a used GPU to cut costs, or get 16GB of RAM and upgrade later. (if you get 16GB, go for 1x16, so it's easy to upgrade later to 2x16. don't get 2x8gb sticks).

There are also cheaper power supplies out there (save $10 for a lower quality PSU, is it worth it?)

There are also cheaper cases out there (save $10 for a shitty building experience, is it worth it?)

There are also cheaper SSDs out there (save $20 and get only 512GB that will hold like 3 games before filling up, is it worth it?)

EDIT: One legit way to lower budget would be to switch to an AMD GPU, but again... is it worth the potential compatibility headaches?

Thanks for this, I might just stick with your build as it seems solid. If I find any deals for a GPU I'll probably go along with them and I guess I have to increase my budget a bit to accommodate for everything. That's fine though. Thanks for the help. If I were to switch to an AMD GPU which one would you recommend??

Honestly kind of slim pickings on umart from AMD GPUs. Even Intel ARC is at $450!

Only other valid GPU option IMO is the 9600 XT 16G, at the same price but with like 30% more FPS in games and double the VRAM. (The higher VRAM may even help you if you do very serious modeling work that needs VRAM, honestly I have no idea if your workflow uses lots of VRAM or not so maybe google this?) https://www.umart.com.au/product/sapphire-pulse-amd-radeon-rx-9060-xt-gaming-oc-8gb-dual-11350-04-20g-83504

AMD GPU
