PCI Card not Recognized

I've only ever had my GPU taking up a PCI slot in this machine but decided to add a USB expansion card. The devices get power but are not recognized by Windows. Tried two more slots with the same result. Tried the card in another computer and it worked fine. Any advice? Windows 10.

Some pci-e slots share pci-e slots with M.2 slots and could be disabled if you have a M.2 SSD installed 

 

If the cards show up in device manager, it could be you simply don't have the drivers automatically installed so you need to provide the drivers yourself.

I do have an m.2 installed but I checked and the motherboard I'm using (ASUS PRIME B450-PLUS) appears to share the bandwidth with the SATA ports, not the PCI slots.  And it certainly wouldn't affect all the PCI slots, right?

 

Appreciate the idea, though.  Any other thoughts?  I've checked the motherboard firmware, everything else I can think of.  Just has me really scratching my head, why all the other PCI ports would be providing power but not showing up in Windows.

Because the power fingers are separate from the data fingers on a PCIe slot

Did you test the GPU in the other PC?

Also, I assume you shut off the PC when you're inserting or removing the cards, right?

I mean why the x4 and x1s are all not working the same way but the GPU on the x16 is working fine.

I did not put the GPU in the other PC, the GPU is already working fine.  You think maybe it's causing the other PCI lanes not to work?

They do not appear in Device Manager and no new hardware gets picked up automatically or on manual scan.  Nothing in BIOS.

Shut off and unplugged, yes.

I'd say either you need a correct driver for it, or it's a bleh product.

Tried the installer that came with it, said the device was not detected, does not show up in Device Manager as new or unrecognized.

 

Worked fine in another PC with no additional drivers required.

Tried a different BIOS update (direct install rather than the manufacturer tool) and all PCI slots appear to be working.  Thanks for the suggestions, all.
