My family is looking for a new TV to replace our current family room TV. Our TV remote stopped working and we’re jokingly using that as our excuse to possibly replace our 9 year old LCD. I did some research on some OLED displays but it got very confusing very fast.

WHAT IM LOOKING FOR

  • Preferably an OLED panel - I don’t think it makes sense to buy a new TV with old tech
  • Strong bright room performance - our TV hangs in a corner next to our windows (TV makes 135 degree angle with the windows) and there are many lights throughout the house.
  • Good for watching sports and occasionally movies (we’d probably watch more movies with a nice TV)
  • Acceptable burn-in prevention - The TV is not on often enough for burn-in to be a problem for most OLEDs, just the worst.
  • 55” - 65” only - fits our mantle (yes ik r/TVTooHigh)
  • A decent enough speaker. We don’t own sound equipment…

THE BUDGET

I don’t necessarily have a budget in mind, so I’m gonna split it up into 3-4 categories.

  • Lowest end - under $800 USD
  • Lower end - $1000 (LG B4? Panasonic Z85A?)
  • Mid range - $1400-1500 (LG C5?)
  • Highest end - $2100 (LG G5?)

The cheaper/better value the option is, the more likely it may actually be purchased. I also live near enough to MicroCenter Houston if that matters.

Please leave your recommendations for each price point.

MINI LED is worth a look. OLED might be new, but it's not the only tech, nor is it the absolute best at everything.

The TCL QM8K is what I'd be looking at getting. Gets insanely bright, and can sustain it with far far less chance of burn in, unlike an OLED. They also have decent built in speakers.

i have the 77" lg c4 and a 55" c3. and will say c4 an awesome tv. i use mine as a monitor so.  sound is pretty good on the c series better then the b series and about the same as the g series. i dont see the need to go g series over the c series really the c series gets plenty bright and looks really good.

if you want to see really good review on them go to rtings

I wouldn't buy the G5, it can't have good sound due to it's thinness. Also I doubt it can even be fitted in a corner.

I remember LG Bs having lesser sound than Cs, but I could be wrong.

I believe Sony has some of the best sounding Oleds with it's vibrating display technology.

I'd also consider Samsung and it's QD-Oled

(and I second the Mini-led recommendation)
