Budget (including currency):

Country:

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Hi all!

I wasn't sure what forum to post this on. Computer hardware seemed the most relevant, but there wasn't a sub for peripherals, etc. that made sense to me.

But to the point, I am looking for a good "docking station" that is reliable and on a budget, connecting via USB C. to turn my work laptop into an effective work station! The market seems flooded with overpriced hardware and I was hoping for some pointers as to where I should look.

Ideally it would have;

USB A ports, USB C ports, ethernet, audio out, and 2X DP / HDMI outputs

Thanks 🙂

A good idea of your budget (or what you'd define as "overpriced") would be a great help. As well as your country/economical area so we can look up the relevant market.

Because I have some options top of my head but they can easily break the 100USD range.

I've gotten to know some stuff, but am far from omniscient, so don't take my advice as gospel and wait for other opinions - I just like throwing in my two cents when I can.

1. What's the laptop model

2. Are you comfy with some cables running from the laptop, or you want everything run on the dock.

3. Be more specific. Type A at what speed?, Type-C at what speed / protocol ?  DP or HDMI or both ?

3. Budget

Reason

1. Is so we can look what kinda ports / protocol are available to you

2. Depending on your answer this can reduce the cost.

3. There's Type-A USB2, Type-A 5Gbps, Type-C charge only, Type-C data only, Type-C with DP Alt mode, DP will allow you to use G-sync, HDMI won't. HDMI / DP version will determine the data bandwith, if you use a high refresh monitor limited data bandwith might make you not able to reach the max refresh rate, etc

4. Self-explanatory

A good dock with lots of nice bleeding edge things on them will cost ya.

There is approximately 99% chance I edited my post
