The rule connecting any  USB device is simple.

It may also have been done on purpose to allow for the attachment of a device that needs more space than a standard device while still not taking up more overall width.

I think it is the side without colored squares facing you or up. Idk how this can happen or whether they messed up one or two connectors.

Not sure why people complain about USB-A connectors when you can just buy the cables that have universal ends on them that are reversable and fit in regardless of top or bottom.
