Using Windows 11, in the same day I got a BSOD, random shutdown and multiple freezes. I tried booting into a live Kali Linux USB and it crashed twice, once on the kali logo and once within a minute of opening Kali. Given it was both in Windows and Linux I suspect hardware so I re-seated the CPU, RAM and GPU and then did a 4 pass memtest (64gb so took 8 hours) and passed with zero errors. I booted into safe mode then and ran 4x 1440p instances of VLC to use 100% cpu for an hour and then did the same in Windows (not safe mode) and no crashes. I restarted in kali linux and it crashed on the logo. I then went back to windows and tried furmark which ran the GPU at 100% for 4 hours (checking intermittently) before I came back to it on the lock screen and frozen again.

Any suggestions on what to do next? I was considering pulling the NVME and trying a spare and installing windows but not sure if that is useful given Kali also crashed.

What is the history of this PC?

Is it very old? Newly built?

If old, when did the problems start?

If newly built, are any parts not new/proven?

If the problem only started recently, is there any new hardware since it was previously working?

What config is the 64GB?

I can't recommend running Furmark for 4 hours.

AMD 5950x CPU with 64gb of 3600Mhz RAM - been running mostly fine for the last 4-5 years. No new hardware, I was just uninstalling DAEMON tools to run the battlefield beta the day the crashes started, a system restore point didn't help

RAM make/model?

Could be a drive issue and doesn't hurt to try if you got the hardware available.

As in one of my SSDs or HDDs?

Where were you trying to install Kali onto? I would isolate all the drives (disconnect) and just leave the drive you are looking to install Kali on or the drive that has Windows installed. Does the freezing occur in BIOS screen as well?

I was just doing a live boot session with Ventoy for Kali so it should be to the USB/RAM I thought? I did that in a hopes to isolate the drives but maybe it does not work as I thought it does?

I have left it sitting on the bios for the last hour and it has not frozen yet

Oh I thought it was an OS at first and not an installer. My bad.

No worries, I have not been the best in listing the details when asking for help here

Well this one was my fault for not knowing what that was.

Still though, try using one drive in the system; essentially you'll want to get down to the bare minimum necessary to get the computer to work.

I removed my HDD, both NVMEs and my SSD and then tried booting to a live USB again and no luck. Didn't bother with the spare NVME since I can't even launch from a USB

I am waiting to hear back from Seasonic to see if my two PSUs are compatible to do a PSU swap but keep the cables in place. Otherwise I am out of options with the parts I have I believe

Hmm ok. You stated in your post that you had a BSOD. Do you happen to know what the error code was?

I am about 90% sure it was "Critical Process Died" but I don't quite recall. I remember the description when googling being related to drivers which is why I went straight to testing Ubuntu live boot USBs

Seasonic said the PSUs are compatible so I might try swapping them. I've also pulled out the GPU from my desktop and got it working in my NAS for some light VM gaming.
