Mines at like 27 and I OCed that balls of it haha, never seen it above 65 on load, 

PC: Corsair C70 Arctic, FX 9370, Corsair H80i, Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3, Corsair Vengence 16gb, Palit JetStream GTX 970, OCZ Vertex 4 128gb and Western Digital Blue 1Tb + 500gb, Antec Gamer 520w

Idle doesn't really matter (unless you want to lower your fan's RPM and therefore the noise). Look at load temperatures. GPUs are fine operating at temperatures upto ~100C, and you only need worry about temperatures if they start nudging 90C.

 

To answer your question, 40C is average. You'll find lower, you'll find higher.

Yes it should be good. Load is the temperature that matters!

What cooler is it? and how fast is the fan running?
