Hi everyone I am not sure if I actually understand this concept so I will just post my Situation. I am wondering if I need a switch to connect my desktop to my file/plex server. Their is only these two machines on my network and a new Asus gigabit AC router with 4 ports. Since both machines as dual gigabit nics should I just use the 4 ports on the router? Also they are very close to each other. Any suggestions? I am really curious if a switch would give me increased performance but I'm not to crazy about it because I'm only going to be moving documents.

You don't need a switch, just plug in everything into your router.
