Android gaming setup? (docked for PC)

Go to solution Solved by y0ur5h4d0w,

as far as i remember you can play steam games on android but with the caviat of using steam link, so you basically cast your PC screen into a "teamviewer session" to your android and you play with your android phone/tablet as a controller with a screen, but i don't think it's a great experience, it would be way better on a steamdeck for sure and you'll be able to do a lot more tasks on a steamdeck since it's a full fledged PC

probably something changed since a couple years when steam link was released but still it's probably a rough experience

One Windows-alternative I'm looking for is playing Steam games on Android 16 with its new desktop mode that I can connect a monitor to. It would be cool to play TF2 and Dying Light on a flagship Android phone. This idea has caught my interest since Google is now working on an official desktop Android OS.

A bigger question is playing modern Steam games on Android 16. I have no interest in the google play store, docking a smartphone to play Steam games sounds awesome. Is it close to possible from your experiences yet?

Problem is CPU architecture. Android runs on arm not x86.

There needs to be a high performance translation layer for existing games to run on arm hardware. If there ever is such a thing then the next steam deck should be ARM based rather than Zen.  Which will likely never happen.

I've tried it, it's still pretty rough. My S23+ quickly heats up and stutters in big games like Zenless Zone Zero even with a fan pointing to it. Many games also are still too demanding, as alien Isolation either has to be played on low/off for a 60+ fps experience or high settings and settle for 30fps. Same for Grid Autosports. GTA series is now old enough to be ran at max graphics tho. Game selection is weak. Keyboard, mouse and controller support often breaks, especially around UI.

As for game streaming, it did Steams PC to phone streaming which was a fairly nice experience for slower games like Civ 5, Stellaris and Cities Skylines. For fast paced games the bitrate and latency of inputs didn't keep up, only keep up if I'm playing native.

There are some PC emulators that supposedly have decent performance for 20+ year old games like NFS MW.

Imma try and find the videos...

You're free to give it a shot but keep expectations low.

Yeah you're right. A Steam Deck might be a better idea.
