rcs messaging android to iphone?

I have a iPhone and just switched cell networks to a new carrier and i stopped getting text from friends that where on android phones for some reason rcs messaging was turned off on my iphone. I turned it on and then received all the texts from my friends androids over the past week. It seemed to affect group messages more than anything.

 

Is this normal?

Yes, and the best reason to leave RCS and imeassaging off. Regular SMS and MMS just works, and won't mess up when you switch between phones or carriers. 

 

On iphone, if you have imessage on, expect a similar issue if you to android when people with iphones try and text you.
