On my new AM5 build (specs below) everything went fine until I tried to enable expo and when I saved and exited the bios it wouldn't go back to windows and simply wouldn't even boot to the bios again. The only way I could get it back to a serviceable point was by clearing the cmos. Does anyone know why this could be happening?

The RAM light also turns on on the mobo but interestingly the VGA light sometimes turns on when I'm just in windows but there is nothing wrong with the card. it could just be that its old.

specs:

R5 7600x

G. Skill trident Z5 32 gb 6400 MT/s

Aorus B650 elite ax ice

1070 ti (upgrading soon)

sounds like an issue with the memory overclocking, EXPO/XMP as "standard" as it sounds it's still a sort of memory overclocking, it's possible that your memory doesn't correctly supports the MT/s and the timings set by the expo therefore the system can't POST.

did you check compatibility of your RAM module with your motherboard? i had RAM issues in my build and checking the motherboard RAM compatibility the SKU i've bought wasn't in the list, it was 6000 CL30 but the sub timings of the memory i've bought were faster then the supported and it lead to inconsistent boots, memory not recognized and sometimes even system crashes. make sure the SKU of your ram is in the compatibility list for your motheboard because AM5 is pretty sensitive to RAM as far as my experience

DDR5-6400 is not easy to achieve.

Most Ryzen 7000 and 9000 CPUs still can't hit that speed by just enabling EXPO.

You'll need to further manually dial in the voltages or timings, and the Infinity Fabric Frequency + Memory Frequency ratio.

My 9800X3D will refuse to run DDR5-6400 stable, and will cause app/game crashes and eventually BSOD.

AIDA64 Memory Stability Test will fail with errors within ~10 minutes of running.

I fell for the YouTuber and tech influencer hype, hoping it would work out-of-the-box...that's why I bought a DDR5-6400 CL30 kit...

I'm able to run it at DDR5-6200, though.

yeah Ill probably tweak it manually soon but in my bios it doesn't just have the speeds as options it has like "24.0, 25.0" and so on to like 125.0 or something, I don't really dabble with OC-ing that much so I don't understand all that.

You can enable EXPO, but then flip over to 'Advanced' mode

Look for a field named 'System Memory Multiplier' and you can set that to 60, etc.
