Spotify ads

I hate how Spotify harasses you with over 4 unskipable  ads just in the hope that you get Spotify premium.

im thinking of doing something 

awful and downloading “YouTube music”

It's your payment for not paying. As someone who purchased music for $0.99 per song 15 years ago (~$1.50/ song when adjusting for inflation)... and before that would record my local radio station to cassette... the spotify cost model seems extremely reasonable to me. I have very little sympathy, sorry.

Is there something wrong with the tactic? You get a service without paying at the cost of a lesser experience. That's pretty standard.

For the user, sure. But most musicians are now in an even worse position financially due to how devalued music has become than they were back when record labels were the biggest devils in town.

The thing you should be doing is supporting artists directly and buying their music. That way you also own it forever and nobody can take it away from you like streaming services can.

I agree, I'm looking from a purely consumer lens, as is OP. 

In my view, this is an issue for musicians to grapple with. Their venue share with Spotify is not my fight. It can't be my fight. I'm simply going to lean towards the platform that provides me the most value for my $.
