I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and I rarely update my phone. But a few weeks ago, I decided to finally do a software update. Immediately after updating, I started having problems: my screen would randomly black out, and I’d have to press the wake button several times to get it to turn on.

Today, the screen suddenly turned completely white. I tried a hard reset, but every time it restarted, I got the same white screen—with only the Wi-Fi logo and time showing, and everything else white. After that, the screen went totally black. Now, the phone doesn’t vibrate, doesn’t make any sounds, and when I put it on the charger, it just gets really hot. I tried connecting it to iTunes on my Windows computer, but it keeps connecting and disconnecting, so iTunes can’t properly detect it.

From my perspective, this seemed like a software issue caused by the update. I live walking distance from an Apple Store, so I went there for help. They connected my phone and told me the software was fine and that I’d have to spend $400 for a new screen. However, with a quick Google search, you can see this is a widespread issue among iPhone 13 models after updating.

How is it just the screen if the phone doesn’t vibrate, make noise, or function in any other way—and only gets hot when charging? I didn’t mention all of this while I was at the store, but I’m considering going back tomorrow to complain, because this doesn’t seem right. if this isnt apple bricking devices and forcing you to upgrade then i dont know what is. theres thousands of cases of this.

This isn't a conspiracy (Apple isn't going to get people to upgrade if they're angry), but it's more than a little frustrating as it sounds like the update might have botched something, and Apple isn't really acknowledging it as a significant problem at this stage.

Did you try force restarting the phone while connected to your computer? I suspect you might have, but I'd like to rule things out.
