Hi, I’m upgrading from an Asus GTX 2080 OC to an Asus RX 9070 XT OC. I thought it would be a fairly simple process and that I’d only need to swap the PCIe cables, but that didn’t work.

The motherboard lights turned on, but when I pressed the power button, I just heard a click sound, and nothing else happened. I then tried using three PCIe Y-cables, thinking maybe the card wasn’t getting enough power – but got the same result. Next, I ordered 3 normal PCIe 8-pin cables and reinstalled my old GPU in the meantime, which still works fine.

However, after trying again with the new cables, the same issue occurred, just a click sound, and no power-up or fan turning. Ofc I also did the usual troubleshooting stuff:

- Made sure all cables were properly seated

-Used DDU

-Updated the BIOS

-Even tried clearing the CMOS out of desperation

I feel like I have hit a dead end. Any suggestions?

Maybe the card is dead, but to be sure you'll need to test it on another PC

Have you tried having the PCIe gen of the slot be manually set to Gen 3?

It might be that the card and board are struggling to negotiate the PCIe generation in Auto.

thank you for the suggestion, Yes started my PC up without a graphics card and set it to gen 3, put the gpu back in, same resolve 😞

I’m going on vacation soon, but I will try to contact the site where I bought it tomorrow, and see if they can test it or if I can get another card.

Unfortunately, I don’t have access to another PC/Test rig 😞
