I was just wondering why the industry would ever develop two standards?
why did they develop both standard EIA/TIA 568A AND EIA/TIA 568B?

if you have no clue what I'm talking about that than this doesn't concern you...

edit: can't change title, should be: why both 568A & 568B?

Many tnx,

technovore

does it not have something to do with crossover cables? i mean the reason why they both exist.

Edit: found this if it means anything to you

7.1 Comparing 568A and 568B
By looking at the first two specifications we see that the only difference is that
the green and orange pairs are terminated to different pins, there is no
difference as to what signal is used on what pin, only what colour wire is
terminated onto it. So technically the standards are the same, they operate in
the same manner and neither one is technically superior to another when used
in Ethernet applications.

It is when an Ethernet system and a phone system are combined that the
difference really becomes apparent.

7.2 Comparing 568B to USOC
Comparing 568B to USOC we see that the blue pair on both are terminated on
pins four/five, so an existing single line USOC phone can operate on 568B
circuitry. Although when an existing USOC phone requires two pairs we see
that the green pair has replaced the orange pair in a 658B system, in this way
568B isn’t completely backward compatible with standard USOC hardware.

7.3 Comparing 568A to USOC
Once again using the telephone standard USOC as a reference we can see
that with the 568A standard both the blue pair and the orange pair appear in
the same order, so both existing one and two line phones can be used with a
568A system.

The only thing I could find was: Both are appropriate for high speed data, though 568B is somewhat more common for installed wiring and 568A is more common in jumpers

I had no idea they were called EIA/TIA 568A/B, I knew them as Type A and Type B connectors...

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

they aren't better, only different.

no...any layout can have a crossover, even if you use neither the A nor B type.

B is more common yes.

They're not connectors, they're an order of colours...they both use the same RJ45-connector.

I've meant "pair layouts", it's kinda different in Russian :D

[iamfunatparties]the connector is actually called 8P8C[/iamfunatparties]

I didn't know about 8p8c, but it seems they're known under both names...?

Yeah, it's like AK-47 and AK, it's incorrect to call it "AK-47" but everybody does that anyway :D

I would say to in a major facility to know which cables are used for which network I.E Data and voice. I could be wrong though, I don't really care. Just the colour differs so that is the only logical reason anyone would want to use both, otherwise it won't matter.
