So i have an amd ryzen 5 7600x
Mb: msi pro b650-p wifi (ms-7d78)
Looking to add some more ram as i currently have 64gb
Yeah i know i may not need more but im still curious.
I just picked up 4 sticks of corsair ram at 32gb each.
All the ram works but as soon as i slot any more than 64gb it wont post. With the cpu and dram header solid red and yellow respectively.
I know the cpu supports 128gb but i seem to be missing something.
Anyone have any ideas?

Yes all the ram was seeded properly.
Yes all the ram works at i ram mem test on both pairs on their own.
Yes all the ram slots work.
And yes the mb bios is upto date.

Granted i havent used anymore than 64gb before so if there is something im supposed to switch on in the bios. Im just at a loss to what im missing to get it working.

Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: GTX 3070 8gb

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6-Core

Motherboard: msi pro b650-p wifi (ms-7d78)

BIOS Version: 7D78v1J (release date 05/29/2025)

RAM: 64gb corsair ddr5 6400mhz (32gb x2) [trying to do 32gbx4]

PSU: 750W ATX 80 Plus Gold

Case:

Operating System & Version: WINDOWS 11 home 24h2 (os build 26100.4351)

GPU Drivers: GEFORCE GAME READY DRIVER - WHQL Driver Version: 576.80

Chipset Drivers: CHIPSET DRIVERS VERSION 7.06.02.123

Background Applications: n/a

Description of Original Problem: trying to boot with more ram, all ram works, all slots work. system fails to post with more than 64gb

Troubleshooting: moved the ram, tested all sticks in memtest, tested all slots on mb.

AM5 does not like 4 sticks of RAM and getting it to post with 4 sticks can be very difficult.

This is why we have started to see DDR5 kits like 2x48GB kits so people can have higher memory with 2 sticks.

No offence, but why do you need 128GB RAM in such a low powered machine?

I would have spent that money on actual performance.

I had 4 sticks before that were 16gb each just fine and it posted no problem. Though thanks for the insight, i figured that since its max was the 128gb it could still handle it. My issue is even 3 sticks didnt work.

I accidentally ordered 32gbx4 in 6400 ram instead of 16x4 in 6400 ram. But wanted to roll with it if i could. And the cpu specs said it could handle 128gb so i thought wth. Why not. Gonna need it later anyway at least at some point.
other issue is that even 3 sticks wont post.

Will you need it later?  What do you do with your machine that uses over 64GB RAM?

Also, you're 4 sticks for 64GB... is that using EXPO or just base JEDEC?

Probably, cant say one way or the other. As for what i do, its all gaming. And mostly that choice was because i grabbed the wrong size as stated prior.

as for the xmp/ expo. I copied this post on reddit and someone there recommended i turn off xmp/expo and try all 4. Still didnt post.
thing is where the xmp/expo is. It now shows a-xmp. With 3 options 2 users but only 1 option is selectable.

but since things seem to need to be pushed elsewhere before i can even consider the use of ram, ill just take it back and upgrade the processor. Or grab some more space for my nas.
this whole thing was more future proofing than anything. Hell the machine is only 2 years old at this point.

Anyways appreciate the help.

Okay, for gaming you don't need more than 64GB , if that.  If you want to stay 2 steps up (32 is the mean, 64 if you truly break 32, and 128 is not needeed for gaming at all) and waste money that's your call.

I just don't agree with the "I'll need it at some point".  Not in this build, no.  Maybe next build in 5-10 years?  Maybe.  But 128 in a gaming rig now... you'll build a new machine before you need it.

Now I have said my piece and if you want to spend the money then by all means, rock it 🙂
