Hi everyone,

I'm looking to build a nas as my hosted instance of nextcloud is now full (1TB) and it's not economical for me to upgrade plans.

I have purchased a 12TB HDD, a Mini PC with an i5 8th gen, and have a symmetrical gigabit connection.  I just want to ask what my best choice is re the tech stack

I would like to have an instance of nextcloud or anything similar, and it may also be nice to use the server for other purposes e.g. set up a local SMB share.

Would Truenas be my best choice here ? If so, which version is best, scale, core, community etc

Also are there any free or low cost easy to setup DDNS providers ?

Thanks in advance

Just the one single 12tb drive? You got a backup?

Yeah it's a single 12TB drive, now that I think about it I should really be keeping a backup too, maybe weekly. Maybe use something like backblaze, or have a second drive I only power during backups (as I want to conserver as much power as possible). Unless truenas can send the signal needed to put the drive into low power mode when not in use ?

Thanks for your help!

TrueNAS is the king in my mind. I also use Nextcloud (NC) in TrueNAS, and it is rock solid. Go for TrueNAS Scale and configure the NC app with host folders for configuration and files.

Regarding storage, a single disk is not advisable for data. Get at least one more disk and run TrueNAS with a mirror configuration. Schedule backups for your configuration and files to ensure safety, because RAID is not a backup solution.

DDNS i'm using free plan here - https://www.noip.com/remote-access
