Budget (including currency): 2000$ CAD

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Little bit of everything I plan to use this from school work to gaming.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

  • Corsair 4000D Airflow

  • Power Supply:  Corsair RM850x (850W, 80+ Gold, Fully Modular)

  • CPU Intel Core i7-14700KF

  • Motherboard:  ASUS ROG Strix Z790-F Gaming WiFi 2

  • RAM:  G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5 (2×16GB) 6000MT/s CL30

  • Storage:  WD_BLACK 2TB SN850X NVMe Internal Gaming SSD

  • CPU Cooler:  Noctua NH-D15

  • Front Intake: 2× Noctua NF-A14 PWM (140mm)

  • Rear Exhaust: 1× Noctua NF-P12 redux-1700 PWM (120mm)

  • Top Exhaust: 1× Noctua NF-P12 redux

Is your GPU budget $2000, or the entire PC budget? If it's the entire PC, maybe a 5070ti / 9070XT would be good. If it's 2k, a 5080 or for more, a 5090 would be good.

That cpu cooler isn't going to clear that RAM due to the tall heatsinks.

does any of your work "need" Nvidia GPU or could AMD GPU be considered?

Modern AMD GPUs (9000 series) are pretty good these days. Finally decent driver support and good ray tracing.

7000 and 6000 had/have good driver support too.

Yeah, but it really improved in the RDNA 4 architecture. I have a 5600G (~4 yo) and the iGPU crashes my apps often.

That's not 6000/7000 series, that's Vega 8 iGPU, and crashes aren't most likely related to drivers either.
