I have bent the socket...

Go to solution Solved by MaxEn560,

@jmwhite33New update
I've tried putting the other ram from the(3000mhz) kit in to the intended position B1 so that they would be in dual channel
because putting one ram into slot A1 and one into A2 didnt work for me so i just tried it
Now the computer booted like normal and the ram got detected so I am very happy for that
Few things i've done differently when putting the computer back together:
I tightened the socket mount (or how is it called) just a little bit
When mounting the cpu cooler i've left the screws a little bit more loose (didnt screw it down as tight as before)

(my suspicion is that i tightened the cooler too much and I've heard that can cause issues)
Cleaned the cpu (idk if that made a difference)
Blown some air into the ram slots
Cleaned the contact pins of the ram

so that's that

One thing that doesn't make sense to me now is that the other(3200mhz) kit doesn't work combined with the original(3000mhz) even though it used to work together just fine
When i tried booting with all of my ram in- the pc went back to the same behavior
Any ideas why it does that ?

Thanks a lot for any responses

Hello i've managed to bend a cpu socket due to an incorrectly mounted cooler backplate

Now from my 32gb of ram only 8gb works

I've made a mistake by buying 1 Ballistix RAM 2x8GB 3200MHz kit and a Ballistix RAM 2x8GB 3000MHz so with different frequencies

The pc DOES work

I've tried:

Resetting cmos

reseating the ram

changing the positions of the ram

booting with only one stick (worked)

flashing bios

repasting the cpu

untightening cooler screws

specs:

i9-11900k
rx 7600 gigabyte version
b560m aorus pro ax
32gb ballistix ram
rm850w corsair

just so you know the ram DID work in this combination (for at least a year)

Is there any light of hope for me ?

Is it crazy to buy a new case in order to just buy a standard ATX motherboard ?

because me having a mATX only case limits me a lot

Do you think it makes sense since im kind of poor?

I really dont want to get rid of my cpu

Thank you for any replies

Oh yeah ! sorry

The problem appeared after installing my cpu cooler incorrectly

After putting it back correctly it started working but in specific conditions

The ram does work but only if i have one plugged in
One ram stick works in either 1A or 1B if thats how you name them
(the two ram slots closest to the cpu)

Thanks for any help

If you are forced to get a new motherboard and aren't happy with mATX you have, now would be the time to get a new case as well.

Doesn't actually have to be new, you probably can find some decent used cases.

did the shop actually test anything or just spout off an answer?

Okay I'll definetly consider buying an ATX case and a motherboard

Im still hoping to find out that the ram went bad since i bought one kit second hand and it arrived in a magazine of some sort

because if the ram worked in the 2 slots closest to the cpu that would mean that both ram channels work so that would point to the ram

This weekend ill be attempting to take some pictures of the cpu socket in order to let people online take look at it

They didnt take the computer, didnt test anything

I called them and the shop basically straight up said: No way of fixing that, buy an AM4 motherboard with ...x3d cpu and be happy

I really wasn't happy with that answer since when i came to the repair shop a month earlier and told them the same thing and they said that i can bring the pc to them so they can take a look at it

Like i said really dont want to get rid of the cpu so im doing everything to not buy a new platform

and im broke

Thanks alot for replying!

No, that's incorrect. Channel A are the two closest slots to the CPU. Channel B are the two furthest from CPU.

You have them in only Channel A so your not testing both channels. So its also running in Single Channel mode.

To run in DUAL_CHANNEL mode you need at least two sticks in slots A2 & B2

have a look at the manual for that board;

You are right, im sorry

Wouldn't that mean that i could put two sticks in the same channel to run both sticks in single channel to atleast have 16gb?

If yes I'm trying that out ASAP because 16gb would make the pc much more usable and i wouldn't even need to buy a new motherboard in that case

That would be awesome!

You possibly found the solution!!

Thank you for your response!!!!

Yes, in theory, only way to know is try it.

Unfortunately it didn't work...

But one thing i have figured out...

Since i can only boot with only one stick which is sad

(one stick in slot A1)

I have also tried to put my other three ram sticks in the same slot and it doesn't boot either

So it might be a ram issue

Just asking if that is also possible...

Tomorrow I'll attempt to reseat the cpu and take pictures of everything

I'll call my local repair shop to test my ram since it might be the issue

Also selling all of my current ram and buying one stick of 32gb ram is a real option too...

Thanks for letting me know:), but bent pins don't seem like the problem since the computer works

I just have ram problems since i've incorrectly installed the cpu cooler backplate and that bent the cpu socket

But in my latest message you can see some progress was made!!!

Thanks for trying to help me!

Okay! Just letting you know that bent CPU pins can affect RAM!

I can attach some pictures of the socket for you to take a look if you want?

I was repasting the cpu today so i have some fresh pictures

If you've taken pictures, sure! You may send them, and I'll do my best to find any problems in the socket. 😄
