My not-so-techy friend asked me to post this :

Hey guys, what video card should I buy, the "AMD Radeon 7870" or the "Gigabyte GTX 760". They both are about the same (or seem to be) performance wise. The noise / look / aditional features don't really matter for me, I only want a decent video card for my current setup , as my whole PC is made from AMD parts, and the AMD video card costs quite a few bucks less than the GTX I think that it's better to buy the 7870.

What I have (important) atm :
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 B50 ~ 3.20 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Video Card: Radeon HD 5450
PSU : Delux 450w (generic) (I know I have to update this too if I buy one of those Video Cards)

CPU : i5 4670k @ 4.2Ghz | Cooler : NH-D14 | GPU : Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 [OC] | MB : Asus Z87-Pro | RAM : A-DATA 8GB 1600Mhz CL9 XPG Black | SSD : 850Evo 250GB

Can you not fit an R9 280 in your budget? They're around the same price as a 760 and performs significantly better. It's essentially a beefed up HD 7950

R9 280 haven't rolled out yet in our country and the 7950 variant is more expensive then GTX 760 for some reason

Tell him to go for the 7870. You can find r9 280s (non x) for 760 prices and is a much faster card

Well that sucks, they're a similar price over here. I'd go for 7870 then, as long as you get a nice non-reference one, you should be able to overclock it to stock 7950 speeds.

The CPU will max out far before any of those cards the others have recommended will.

Unless you plan on upgrading your CPU soon, the best you can get while taking into account your CPU will be an R7 265 ($150).
