Hello everyone, I'm currently upgrading my home network and would like to get into ubiquity network products.

What in stuck on now is which access point to get? I would like to get a wifi 7 just to future proof as much as I can simple becuase I'm not really the one to upgrade any of my equiptment unless it breaks.

I see a ap for 140 and one fot 280

The u7 lite is 140 which covers 1300 sq ft and my house is 1450 and the u7 pro xg the new model which covers more and has a tri radio in it.

I'm not that good at understanding ap lingo and don't know if I'll even notice the diff or if the double in price is worth it.

So here I am asking the pros to let me know everytbing I need to know about ap.

I plan on having two one up stairs and one downstairs. House is already pre wired and I'll be using ubiquity cloud gateway with poe.

Firstly, the U7 Lite should be $99.

Secondly, if for future proof, are you interested in support for 6GHz? Because the U7 Lite does not have a 6GHz radio.

There's support for 6GHz, 4x4 MU-MIMO on 5GHz (vs 2x2 on the U7 Lite), and support for 10GbE, among other things. Intended use is in more dense client environments.

Because house construction varies, I suggest you use UniFi Design to get an idea of what you'll need and placement.

I plan on having the dream machine special edition for the poe

If you'll be adding more PoE+/++ APs in the future, you'll need more than the 2x PoE+ ports that the UDM-SE provides.

Are your APs going to be the only PoE devices? If so, you can use PoE injectors instead. Also, for the cost of the UDM-SE, you can probably get by with a UCG-Ultra/Max and a small UniFi PoE switch to support your PoE devices. But note that the UCG-Ultra only supports UniFi Network, whereas the Max and UDMs can support other apps if you want to run Protect, for example.

Yes i would like to support wifi 6 as well considering my phone right now is wifi 6 compatible.

I plan on having 4 ap's total so that's y I'm going with the special edition model becuase it supports poe and poe+. I was considering getting the regular dream machine and adding poe injectors but I'll probably wrap my house in poe cameras one day or another.

So the u7 lite doesn't support wifi 6? That's what I'm wondeirng.

I should probably just buy the better ap and forget about it.

“Wifi 6” and “6GHz” aren’t necessarily the same thing.

Wifi 6 runs on 2.4 and 5GHz

Wifi 6e runs on 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz

Wifi 7 runs on 2.4 and 5GHz, and optionally 6GHz

Both client and AP need to have 6GHz radios to use it.

Looking to buy GTX690, other multi-GPU cards, or single-slot graphics cards:

What would you guys suggest for simple home use? The w7 lite or the double the price one?

Do you have devices that support 6 GHz? You never said what you internet speed was.

Have you looked at other devices than Ubquiti? Don't get just stuck on one brand. I use Ubiquiti's APs, but they really didn't have any switches that were a good fit for me. So my main switch, and POE switch is from Netgear.  My firewall / router is just an OPNsense box. (My whole setup is 10G) Point is, don't get hung up on making everything from one vendor, especially if it's not going to be what you need.

The U7-Lite has support for WiFi 5/6/7 clients. There is no 6GHz antenna, but most features of WiFi 5/6/7 can operate using the 2.4GHz and 5GHz antennae. If you have very few or no devices with 6GHz connectivity now or expected in the near future, the U7-Lite is a safe AP for most home users. The power requirements are also less than the Pro/ProMax/ProXG/ProXGS if power consumption is a concern for you.

If you're asking about the "double-the-price-one" and are not sure why you should get it, perhaps don't bother about it for now. After some time with 2x U7-Lites, you'll know if you need any more of the same to add on or should upgrade.

Nobody here can give you an exact number and model of APs to use because what we have works for our home/business environment, which will differ from yours not just in layout, but also in construction materials and wireless interference.

If you're going to go down the Ubiquiti road, at least in choice of AP, invest some time in running UniFi Design as previously suggested to get an idea of AP positioning for optimum coverage. You can also compare coverage with higher AP models to see if much changes. The ultimate test remains getting the APs installed and using the WiFi.

Thanks everyone for the replys, I'll have to build a system on their website to see what they suggest.

I just found out they have a modem, can someone explain why on earth I would grab my is modem and hard wire it to their modem? Seems to not make any sense.

You're not obligated to buy any of their products.

That is their cable modem. Meant for those who want integration into the UniFi's "single pane of glass" interface, but not necessary.

You wouldn't connect two modems together. The idea here is you would replace what your ISP gave you with their modem. My ISP charges $15 a month to rent their gateway (modem/router combo). So instead I have bought my own modem (CM1000v2), to save the money. The Ubiquiti modem is rack mountable, so there's that. But it's hell of expensive.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
