is there something i need to do for it to work that way or is it just like that by default

The question you are asking doesn't make much sense. Think of this as "can I run Minecraft and render a video on my PC at the same time?" Sure you can, if your computer is powerful enough to do so. Services are just applications running on a computer. Nothing more.

Hello guys, just saw a video of linus making a home server and thought that i would try to do that.

I dont really know anything about computer software like that but i was wondering if the same server type that linus made (video linked) would also be able to host game worlds for me and my friends (also linked) im sorry if the question may seem obvious but id appreciate any help

The minecraft wiki has a page for recommendations of spec to host a minecraft server:
https://minecraft.wiki/w/Server/Requirements

https://minecraft.wiki/w/Server/Requirements/Dedicated

In short, it's highly dependant on the load and your settings. For example, a high draw distance will increase your needed specifications substantially.

Start with any old computer you have lying around, dont worry about the minimum specs. Install linux on that machine and just tinker with things. There is an insane amount of information online that will teach you just about anything you could possibly want to know.

If your very lost and dont know where to start, give yourself some objectives. Run a minecraft server, create a file share, learn how to remote access the machine, etc. Dont worry about buying anything new .

Here are some recommendations to get you started:

- What version of linux? It really does not matter, but it's worth starting with Ubuntu since it has the most tutorials online

- Learn simple command line tools

- Minecraft: check out fabric mc, very simple to setup and there are lots of performance mods that make it run great on low end hardware (mods include: lithum, c2me, ferritecore, etc)

- Other steam games (eg, dont starve together, satisfactory): look up steamcmd and the game name, you will find lots of resources for server setup

- Setup a firewall and open up ports for services you are running

- Look into remote management, SSH is pretty standard and will give you commandline access to your server, programs like cockpit (https://cockpit-project.org/) will let you control your entire server from a web browser

Have fun 😄

Definetly not, you can run as many services as you want! until you run out of ram in any case, but there are plenty of clever ways to pause and resume things
