My mom's machine doesnt support Windows 11 officially. I did provide her with several options:

  • Hacking Windows 11 to make it work aka the by pass
  • Paying for Windows 10 updates for the max of 3 years
  • Linux (This was the option I told her I would do
  • Buy/Build a new computer

She choose to just buy a new computer. My question about Chromebooks has to do with printers. How good is the support for Print / Scanning? We have a Cannon all in one and we occasionally need to print and scan. The reason Im looking in to Chromebooks is due to the cost (she spent just north of $300 on this current machine) and she only uses the machine for Facebook and Online banking.

Just to be clear, not dead set of a Chromebook, just seeking info to see if it's even an option.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

cant talk about scanning, but i'd look into setting up scan to mail anyways.

The printer while I can connect to WiFi, I just connect it via USB because I found the WIFi connection unreliable. The PC works fine on WiFi, so either the pinter is in a slight dead zone or the WIFi chips used in Printers suck. The previous HP printer we had, had issues as well.

I think that the best option if all else fails is to use an external storage drive (eg usb flash drive or sd card) to transfer files back and forth. While it is an extra step, setting up the "print" function on the computer to just save as a PDF on the drive. Ik its somewhat of a hassle, but in my situation (somewhat similar), has proved to be the most effective.

You missed the point. Some times we have to scan documents, as we dont have a digital copy. Printing shouldn't be an issue according to @manikyath. But I do know there has been situations where we got stuff in the mail that had to be scanned and emailed, like I said our printer has shitty WiFi capabilities and Im not sure it can scan to email.

I myself have a MacBook and Windows gaming machine if we need to do anything too advanced that a Chromebook cant handle. But again, Chrome book is not set in stone, just trying to figure out options. As I know my mom is not going to want to spend a ton of money, probably wants stay between $300 to $350 at most. Chromebooks can easily be found in that price range, desktop PCs not as much.
