it seems the 2nd slot doesn't support SATA and being only PCIe 3.0x4 it might limit (slightly) your PCIe 4.0x4 drive

Your SATA drive being of a decent size you could use it in the first slot, you won't see a difference.

Hi, i have an MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk MAX WiFi which supports 2 m.2 drives. i have a gen 4 which i plan to put in the primary slot. i have another older m.2 sata ssd drive which has the M key (i think it's called). will this work in the secondary slot even though there is no gap where the drive connects? i don't want to insert it and have something bad happen.

thanks for the answer. both drives are 1tb, but the sata drive is substantially slower, clocking in at a max 560mb/s. i will install it in the 1st slot and install the gen 4 in the second slot and make newer one my OS drive since its much faster. my fear was that it would be an issue since there was no notch where i plug the drive into. i just hate getting rid of tech stuff if it can still be used 😁

You can also just use a SATA adapter for the order B+M Key WD blue

thank you for the option, I didn't know they had those, but I agree, I'll just put it in the top slot.
