A friend of mine has always had synesthesia. Oddly enough, before we talked about it, sharing experiences, I started experiencing it as well. Typically, it's 'tasting' a 'color'. Pretty extreme in my friend, pretty mild in me, and oddly, only really effects food if I have a food allergy involved.

However, and this is something I didn't actually know existed before I experienced it, pain can trigger or cause synesthesia, as well. I've lived with moderate to... Well, not severe, but persistent and pretty bad pain. Just recently, last week, I had a Cortisone shot in my hip, due to hard tissue damage and persistent, high grade pain. The shot is helping, my pain levels are considerably lower in my hip, but as with any kind of cortisone shot, it's not just a switch being flipped, like with Lidocaine or Novacane, but it sorta gradually takes effect.

And this is where synesthesia plays a role. I've noticed, over the past 2-3 days, odd colors in my head, from my hip. It sorta... Started out as an almost rainbow shimmer, but now it's more like... Oil on water.  You can see it, but not if you're looking directly at it, kind of thing. And yes, the pain is incredibly reduced, but I can also still feel the pain, and I can still tell when my hip is out of alignment. I'll probably need a full joint replacement pretty damn soon, I'm going to take advantage of my state's paid leave program, and work can actually suck it for 3 months.

Anyway, this is new to me, and very... Relaxing? I've had very mild synesthesia for a long time, but usually only with taste and some sounds, but... I wish I was artistic, I'd love to pain this, but I don't have the skill, and I'm not feeding this into an AI. XD Anyone else experience synesthesia? I find the similarities, and differences, fascinating.
