Ok I’ve tried asking people on Reddit for help but everyone is just being condescending to my question.

Here’s my question.

Cpu is at 100 percent usage on most games when I feel like it shouldn’t. It was running good but I recently swapped my board cause my old one was causing issues. Now my gpu is being hard bottlenecked by my cpu when it wasn’t before. Could a motherboard setting be causing this?

My specs are:

12700k

32gb DDR5 5600mhz

9070xt

1tb ssd

850w gold psu

What games would that be? And at what resolution?

Factorio for example is very CPU intensive so there the CPU is the main actor aka the one that is likely to hit 100% first

1080p is more of a load on the CPU unlike 1440p and 4K which are mainly GPU depended

I edit my posts for so if you saw a typo.... no you didn't, you are just crazy

If you're worried about your motherboard having an impact we'd need to know what model it is. Motherboard can impact CPU performance but mostly down to overheating of VRM's.

9070XT is also very powerful compared to a 12700K so it could just be a 1080p bottleneck. Maybe some power settings reset on the PC such as to a power savings mode not unlocked performance.

I tested cyber punk, monster hunter wilds, dragons dogma 2, marvel rivals, last of us part 1 all at 1440p. It wasn’t reaching 100 percent cpu before I swapped my board

Check CPU-Z, see if RAM is running in dual channel mode.

Use Intel PresentMon (or MSI Afterburner) to monitor usage and temps in game.

I used hwmonitor and it never reached more than 70c. But the cores are all go over 100 percent for usage.

Lets break it down a lil

cyber punk

Nothing too unexpected since it got heavier and more CPU demanding after phantom liberty

monster hunter wilds

Unoptimised PoS game (gameplay and quality wise amazing but its is very unoptimised) where even top end hardware struggles

Now this is interesting

Marvel rivals isnt hard to run and shouldnt spike the CPU usage (unless we go into ult cluster Fk where the CPU will struggle cause it has to process like 10 ults at once but that is specific)

I doubt the mobo is at fault (and that you didnt reach into such issues prior to the swap)

Since it is a new motherboard, did you go into BIOS to enable the settings like XMP again?

Also also (which i doubt matters any if at all) new windoes updates cause issues in general lately for no reason

I enabled xmp and I have multicore enhancement at default intel. And marvel rivals is the only game that doesn’t have 100 usage I forgot to mention that. That runs good and league of legends but I’m more concerned that gpu demanding games are being bottlenecked like this. On last of us I got 100 gpu but also get 100 cpu. cyberpunk it spikes to 99 then to 70 with cpu at 100 monster hunter doesn’t reach 100 but neither does my gpu, gets like 85- 90 gpu and cpu spikes from 70 to 100 usage. And dragons dogma I tested before I swapped my board haven’t bothered trying again but that one was running good and same with monster hunter before I swapped my board

You can run that with a potato so dont even care about that one

Almost impossible unless your CPU is that weak (yours isnt)

If a game is more GPU demanding it means the CPU isnt being utilized all that much ie its very unlikely for the CPU to be the Bottleneck there

Cyberpunk I explained why as Phantom liberty changed its standing on what it demans and how much of that

MHW is one of the best examples of poorly optimised games so dont worry too much about that

So dragons dogma you did not in fact test you just played that before

As for MHW, define running good and how that changed now?

I was getting 97-90 percent usage on gpu and I was getting good frames like 140-160with good 1%lows above 80 with fsr 4 on quality. Now I have to run frame gen to not see the stutters anymore and barely touch 90 percent usage on gpu. It’s playable but It was way more smooth. the only real variables that have changed is that I had to disable my e core on my cpu cause mhw kept crashing with them on and my motherboard xmp is clocking my timings faster than rams speed. It’s rated at 5600 cl40 I think but my motherboard cuts the timings down to cl36. Otherwise I have the same exact settings and same hardware.

any suggestions on what I should test then? I have a large library on steam so I can try other stuff.
