Hello,

My friend has an GIGABYTE B760M GAMING X DDR4 (rev. 1.0) and he is trying to flash his bios but it says Bios ID check error. He is in fact downloading the correct model update (quadruple checked it).

Here is the link for the driver https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B760M-GAMING-X-DDR4-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios

He tried to download a newer version (he is on F17 and tried F18) and it did the said error, when he tried older version it does the same thing.

He puts the usb drive into the flash bios usb port, he reset the bios to defaults and still nothing helped.

Any tips?

Thank you in advance.

Is he renaming the BIOS file to GIGABYTE.BIN?

This is required for the BIOS update to work for Gigabyte motherboards.

Thank you for the response, yes he did, he did GIGABYTE.BIN, GIGABYTE.bin and nothing helped. Just to be clear it has to be the B760MGAMINGXDDR4.F18 file right?

He tried to update it through the gigabyte control center as well and it says update failed.

I dont even see an F18 BIOS version on the website you linked for the motherboard.

I see F17-F19 and F20.  F18 is not there.

Is he possibly downloading from the wrong motherboard website?

What is FAT32 and how do we check it?

Yes he does have the original mobo mox

is it possible for him to take a picture of the motherboard box so I can see it?

FAT32 is the 32-bit version of the file allocation table (FAT) file system.

Basically, the USB has to be FAT32 for it to work for a BIOS update.

Most if not all USB sticks between 2-32GB is FAT32 and anything above this is NTSF.

To check you right click the USB stick in windows / this PC. Go to properties and it should tell you.

I am verifying with him the usb type, and in the meantime I attached the box photos.

Okay.  Check the USB stick for FAT32.

Also, is there any other files on the USB stick other than the Gigabyte BIOS update file?

They may need to check the motherboard to verify the box and product actually match. CPU-Z should also be able to show enough board information to determine current BIOS version and possibly board revision. A few times I've had issues with BIOS flash like this and every time it's been a minor variation between what I have and what I thought I had. Not saying that's what's going on here but it's possible. Also, what size is the USB drive they're using? Maybe it's too large and the BIOS doesn't like reading it? Is it reading the file and then spitting out the error?

GIGABYTE.bin didnt work and the default name didnt work as well

Can he go into the BIOS and take a picture with his phone of the BIOS so I can see what version he is currently using and motherboard.

I have a feeling we are downloading the wrong files.
