Why does Bluetooth keep disconnecting on my PC? My BT mouse disconnects a few times every week, but when I connected BT speakers, they disconnect multiple times a day. Is my motherboard's BT a piece of trash, or is this software? Using Bluetooth 5.0. Thanks!

  • Faulty BT module
  • no antenna connected
  • driver fault

Maybe for all (I don't remember seeing an antenna), but I do use an HP Pavilion prebuilt, and you know how they cheap out sometimes!

Sorry, I use Bluetooth 5.0, not 4.0. I updated the post.

1. Use the motherboard control app and update to the latest available BIOS version.
2. Download the latest Bluetooth driver from the MB manufacturer's website. Your model->Support->Downloads

It's like Windows. I have experience with Bluetooth on Windows. It's not great. Microsoft promised they would fix it with Windows 11 and still have not. It's so bad I gave up on using Bluetooth on my Windows machine. I just hook the headset up via a wire.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

The BT module in your machine also affects the quality and connection. The one used in my Surface PRO6 works like a champ.

My friend said the same about his Surface. Not sure what WiFi cards they are using in those. I know with every machine I have used Bluetooth on. Windows 7 worked the best with a $6.99 USB Bluetooth adapter from Amazon, 85 to 90% of the time it worked good. Windows 10 was much less. Windows 11 sucked just as bad. Besides connection issues, windows has a habit of switching to headset mode and ruining sound quality. Sure it could be the M.2 WiFi card on my motherboard or even the antennas placement. As it stands I gave up. I run my HD4.50's wired with Windows and Bluetooth with my Mac.

I get you, for my desktop, I use a bt dongle. Though it runs well for a for a good while it will then magically decide it doesn't want to connect...😒  i know it's not the dongle.

I run w10.

I see. Maybe it's Windows 11's problem then.

I run w10.

It disconnected again. I checked Event Viewer and got this -

Windows cannot store Bluetooth authentication codes (link keys) on the local adapter. Bluetooth keyboards might not work in the system BIOS during startup.
