So a while back i posted a thread asking for GPU suggestions for my stock dell optiplex 7010,

a mod then helped and suggested me the 1650,

Now i was wondering if i upgrade my power supply (PSU) to 500W can i use a 1650 Super or RX 5500XT or even something better like 2060 Super or something else........

please help.

( I can also upgrade to a 650 or 700W psu if needed for a better Gpu )

I also look forward to upgrading the CPU but not now and i cannot upgrade the motherboard currently, i can also upgrade RAM if needed......

Edit: Separate to gaming i also want to start editing using Adobe After Effects.

So I checked your last post about the Optiplex, and you'd probably need to upgrade some other components to be able to fit a better GPU than the 1650. As @Needfuldoer said, it would be best to wait and upgrade the whole computer than to upgrade the PSU just for the temporary computer you're using right now.

Is your Optiplex the SFF form factor (~3.5 inches thick) or MT form factor (~6.9 inches thick)? If it's SFF, that severely limits your options for a new GPU and PSU.

I also don't remember if the Optiplex 7010 MT can take a standard ATX PSU or not. It's wide enough to take a standard ATX PSU, but I don't know if it's compatible with the motherboard. Many Dell and HP systems can't actually use aftermarket power supplies because the motherboards have incompatible connectors.

To be totally honest, trying to upgrade this system piecemeal (other than the GPU) is a bad idea due to it being too old and restricted. You're much better off just starting over with newer components. A new CPU would require a new mobo/RAM and probably also a new case, at which point you just have a whole new PC, and buying stuff that's still compatible with your old components is probably just throwing money down the drain.

If you want to throw a 1650 into it so that you can play some games, that's not a terrible idea, but I personally don't recommend attempting to upgrade it past that.

i was thinking of using the super variant and selling the whole thing with a new case as a custom build,

by this i can start a whole new pc build,

also my ssd is at the edge of breaking

the middle one

good, that'll support a full height card, which is a bonus.

Without any upgrades you can use:

1650, RX 6500 XT, RTX 3050 6GB, Arc A310

If you upgrade to a 500+ Watt PSU, you can run cards that need PCIE Power input.

No, you can't do anything to tweak the motherboard.

The better solution would be to just buy an RTX 3050 6GB (not the 8GB version). The 6GB version doesn't require any supplemental power connectors from the power supply and so you wouldn't need to upgrade your power supply at all. It also has about the same raw performance as the 1650 Super, but with 2GB more VRAM and support for modern RTX features like hardware accelerated ray tracing, DLSS, and the full DX12U feature set (which is mandatory for some recent games like Alan Wake 2).

A 3050 6GB would also probably cost about the same as buying a 1650 Super and a new power supply.

You'll probably see some people online describing the 3050 6GB as a bad/ripoff product and to some extent it is, but in your very particular situation it's actually the best option since there is no other GPU with similar performance that can run off of slot power only.

Keep in mind that your CPU is going to be a pretty big limit in most modern games so there is little point to going past this level of GPU performance unless you're going to also immediately upgrade the rest of the system.

Shouldn't be a problem, though your old i5 will be a bottleneck. So will RAM. Yes, you can put an SSD in there, too.

AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600g w/ Radeon Graphics | 16GB DDR4-3200 RAM | 256GB NVME SSD + 2TB HDD | Amazon Basics 2.0 Speakers

I'd put the 6500 xt as the LAST option.  I'd absolutely get anything better before getting that one.  (It's just one of the only semi-modern GPUs that doesn't require PCIE Power)

so should i look for one which does not have a pin connector

1060 6gb or RX 580

1650 Super (behind that)

6500 or 5500 are waaay lower choices.

i was looking at benchmark results between rx 5500 xt and rx 580

alot of games were crashing on 580 because of driver issues and the 5500 xt just performs better

You could use a GeForce RTX 3050 6GB version without needing to upgrade the power supply.
