what are these stuff? now i presume they are to produce salt but the thing is i see them always on maps but i have never seen one in real life. do we really consume so much salt?

I know it might not be secure, yeah vibecoding is cool but we shouldnt do smt unless we understand it and etc. thx but these disclaimers get old quick. maybe we shall be reminded frequently for we are stupid but i dont work at a nuclear powerplant.

I think something around 10g per day per person on global average. So the US is like a million tons of salt alone.

 

Those could be for salt production, but also just water storage for irrigation. 

It wouldn't make sense to have these for salt production in the middle of nowhere without access to seawater or other saltwater, usually salt is much easier mined or pumped as brine from salterns.

Not entirely sure, but they almost look like Lithium drying ponds (or something similar to that).

 

As a whole though, we do use a whole lot of salt and drying ponds tend to be the cheaper methods in some areas.

 

For the amount of salt we use, well we use salt in a lot of things including cooking but a whole lot for road salt as well

there are also orange ponds too

iirc, lithium ponds can range in a bunch of different colors (and can also differ in colors based on purity and also how concentrated the evaporation pools are)
