PC Shuts down

Go to solution Solved by MrSimplicity,

sounds like a PSU issue or a thermal issue but could definitely be a Motherboard problem as well.

Hi!
I would like to ask for some help...

My PC is shutting down randolmy, but only when I play R6 (did not try playing other games), it happened like 5 times. If I'm just browsing everything is fine. The CPU and the GPU didn't overheat as I've seen. When it shuts down it puts itself into a state, where it seems that it is on, and the led that indicates it is on, but it isn't responsible to anything, and it only shuts down truly if I plug it basically out. These only happened today, yesterday everything was fine.

Specs:

Windows 11

CPU:AMD Ryzen 5 5600G

GPU: RX 580

32GB RAM (2 Piece Kingston KF3200C16D4/16GX)

Motherboard: Gigabyte B550M DS3H

PSU: Seasonic G12 GM 550W ATX

Your PC is crashing not turning off. I'm going to assume a graphics driver crash as that's usually the culprit. Try DDU and then reinstall AMD drivers. You do seem to have a fairly old GPU and it may just not be able to keep up with much anymore. Thought that doesn't mean you need a new one. Also make sure you don't have any overclocks set. Might even have to underclock. If that doesn't work then you might be running into a memory error. Run a MEMTest on your RAM. Otherwise you might very well be running into a thermal issue. Could try repasting your CPU and though you probably wouldn't be comfortable doing it, you could also try repasting your GPU as well.

I would try some other games first, it's unlikely the game itself is causing a crash and not just being forced closed, but it's the easiest test and easiest fix if so.

Do a clean install of the drivers, check for windows and game updates too.

If it continues, you'll need to get either run some benchmark tests or have a hardware monitor overlay on the game. You'll be looking to see if anything is getting too hot and what your ram/cpu/gpu usage hits. I wouldn't bother adjusting hardware until you test it.

Well, it started shutting down on normal use such as browsing, where it didn't before. I tried powering up, logged in (didn't open anything), shuts down again. I screwed out the gpu, started, didn't even login and it shut down. Then again without gpu, but this time it shut down at the Gigabyte screen. Then with gpu I started it again and I can use it now. Could it be a motherboard problem?
