I bought a StarTech PEX4SFF8639 and an intel DC p4501 2TB drive for it.
does this just plug in and work or did i make a mistake?
I dont want to boot from it but just store all my steam library on it.

Yes. My dad has a Intel Pcie drive and you just plug it and it should work. Now while your intel drive is sas and your using a pcie adaptor it still should work.

Pci-e is quite literally a universal expansion bus. Meaning yes your card will work.

You can actually add ANYTHING to a pci-e slot. Drives , memory , even processors..... A gpu , is a good example of a literal processor that is added by pci-e.

wait until you get into server boards where you can literally plug and play pci-e cards.... while the machine is running. cool stuff.
