Help deciding next upgrade

Budget (including currency): 150 roughly (can save more)

Country: England

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: high refresh rate cs2, Fortnite and GTA. red dead redemption 2 and im thinking of getting kcd2

  • Motherboard
    Asrock b450-m Steel legend
  • RAM
    16gb corsair vengeance @ 3000mhz
  • GPU
    gtx 1660
  • Case
    Fractal design meshify s2
  • Storage
    3 ssds
  • PSU
    Corsair RM650
     
     
    Hey im thinking of upgrading gpu and want help deciding what to upgrade to. I recently had my rx 5600xt fail on me and have bought a gtx 1660 until i had abit more money to spare. the 1660 simply does not provide the performance i would like in rdr2. thoughts on upgrading to a rtx 3050? or should i save and get a better gpu? if so pls give suggestions. Thanks

You won't get any decent GPU with £150, best buy atm is 6600 at £200

the 3050 is pretty disliked, you could look at some bids on ebay.

Do not get the 3050, the 6600 is much better and AMD has fixed their bios issues long time ago. AMD is fairly stable as of now. If you can try to save more so you don't end up with an old GPU that might not last as long as newer gpus.

It's barely faster than your 1660, wtf would you "upgrade" to that crap ??

I'm not sure where you live, but where I live there is no way you're getting a brand new 4060 for 150 p. Unless you're aiming for used

check bids on ebay, you might get lucky.

If you're ok with used gpu, and you can get more than 150p, I'd say aim for a high-end gpu from maybe 2-3 years ago. RX6800 is pretty good. Depends on your resolution

The 3050, even the better 8gb model would pretty much be the same as what you have. At least in terms of performance, although maybe upscaling could help idk. IMHO, something like a 5700xt or a 6600 would make a lot more sense. Allthough, if you sell the 1660 and save up just a little bit more, then you can look at some $300 cards and those I think would really give the performance you're looking for. But sticking with the og 150 then try to get a used 6600 or 5700xt.

near where i live i can get a rtx 2080 super second hand for 245. i can trade in my gtx 1660 for 70. would this be worth it. or just save a little for for a 4060?

I think that really the only difference between the two is that the 4060 has better RT and probably better software. If you think the extra cash is worth it then you can check it out but a 2080s for 250 seems like a good deal. Just make sure its not a scam.

can easily confirm, my 7800xt hasnt had any issues. even my older r9 380x has no problems.

probably unlucky, if you're buying cheapest used card there's always a risk with used cards, gotta be careful with those, some of them aren't plug and play
