3570k + nvme?

Go to solution Solved by Spicyegg_234,

i dont think intel 3rd gen supports NVMe but in software i think you can get a NVMe drive working. a sata M.2 and NVMe M.2 is very different

Just recased a computer for my buddies kid, an old computer of mine that has been passed around for years.  I added a gpu and told him I would expand the storage thinking I could use an NVME drive in an m.2 riser card but of the two drives I have neither will show up in disk management.  OS is Win10

One of the drives could be dead but the other one I know is good.  I used to have a sata m.2 drive in this ad in board on this same computer.

Thoughts?

*Intel 3570k + 16g? ram (4 sticks ddr3) + ASRock Z77 + sapphire R9 380 nitro

Yeah that's what I was afraid of.  I know SATA doesn't care how it's connected due to when I used it over pcie.  Just wasn't sure where the interface was handled for nvme.  Thanks, I already boxed the PC up for him.  Now I have peace of mind that I didn't do something incorrect.

Audio go Brrrrrr

i believe you have to boot SATA or a USB with the efi partition pointing to the NVMe drive. or you can mod the bios to see NVMe drives 🫠

nvme boot isnt natively supported and you need a workaround like clover and/or bios mod for nvme support which is really safe on that board since asrock alongside asus boards have socketed bios making bios recovery very easy

i have a z77e6 myself and yeah i think ill just use this thing as a guniea pig or resell as the voltage ranges are pathetic and i cant even get 2800 ddr3 to boot due to lacking vccsa/io (code 23 = imc needs more volt), just have to find the voltage controllers that supply vdimm vccsa and vccio and its horrible oc capabilities should be rectified but more keen on just using my newly aquired z77 mpower
