yep 5way optimization is not  available on ROG boards

doubtful it will ever work, dont think they will update.

ROG assumes you can tune and tweak yourself.

they do have some pre-defined OC's on z97 boards.

As in new do you mean Z97?:

These are the new Z97 ROG motherboards offered directly from ASUS' webstore: http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG_Series_Products/

Tick the z79 checkbox to see only the new boards

According to the list of features in the UEFI BIOS they do both have it...

Yep, specially in this MOBO: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-MAXIMUS-VII-HERO-Motherboards/dp/B00K2MASE4/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1401657894&sr=1-1&keywords=maximus+vii+motherboard

So you said it does have this freature, the first guy says it dont...

Edit: Yeah, i saw in its page that it actually does come with the 5 way, thank you

It really looks like, checking your kind of cooling, applying specific overclocks to each program (thats an awsome freature).

The video that I saw, he got to 4.8

yes he did on a cherry picked Evaluation Sample CPU.

good luck getting an i7 to 4.8ghz on less than 1.3V.

Take those results with a grain of salt.

I can do it manually too, but it has lots of downsides:

1- I will have to learn first

2- It takes too much time

3- I can not enable/disable via software

4- There is no per-application overclock

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm not sure if 5-way optimization is significant enough to be a make-or-break feature for a motherboard. I'd probably go for the board that looks best aesthetically. That being said, 5-way optimization seriously surprised me. Asus pack-in software was always pretty lousy in the past, but this new one actually works. I got a 2 core 46, 2 core 47 oc on my 4770k with 1.275 adaptive and it took like a minute and one click. Pretty sweet. I can do better punching in values manually, but for software it is nice. Some of the other Asus stuff is still bad though. "Away Mode" for instance crashes my pc every time i try to use it.

I love the 5-way optimization as well. So I'm thinking of getting the Z97 PRO over the Maximus VII Hero. Would this be a good move?

I'm currently using a z-97 pro. I really like it so far, I dig the fact that it has a more understated look. Performance seems to be about the same as my old z87, which is fine. The ROG boards are beautiful but they would not looks so good in my white case.

Sorry to dig up an old thread...

Even though the ROG boards have 5-way optimizations there is one BIG difference:

the OC on the ROG boards are based on presets instead of being dynamicly adjusted. This means the results will be bad (more voltage/heat) because the presets have to work on as many chips as possible.

This is my experience. I have a VII Gene and I tried the 5wo just to see what happened and it did an awful job. It spat out 4.6 @ 1.32v, my manual OC is 4.8@ 1.31v...

4.8 @ 1.31? You must of hit the lotto. I can't get 4.8 unless I push it to 1.38-1.4 but oddly enough I can get 4.9 as well at that vcore... just not worth it to me though. I'm running 4.7 @ 1.29

Its seems to be a pretty good chip. I'm happy with it. I tried 1.35v for 4.9 and it ran but temps got into the 90's quick so I stopped it. Not worth it.

4.7 @ 1.29 is still very respectable.

Yeah but my OCD wants an even number without dropping to 4.6ghz :P

I know that feel bro. I usually use 4.6 @ 1.275v for most stuff and bump it to 4.8 when I want to feel cool. :)
