Budget (including currency): unknown

Country:  US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:  Storage for plex

Other details: just got a netapp DS42426 JBOD on facebook marketplace for $200 and it came with everything needed to connect it to a computer and rails. i still want to use my 5950x to transcode video(4k blu ray transcode is crazy 80% cpu) so should i convert to a server case or buy a cheap sever to connect the jbod to and map the drive. i plan on using hex os i bought the license during black friday. i will start with 12 16tb drives using zfs for redundancy, idk if its overkill to have groups of 4 drives with 1 for redundancy.

Why? You can just grab a sas card and connect it externally or push the cables through a pcie slot cover.

Also for transcode use the gpu. If you don't want to pay for the feature jellyfin is a free alternative to plex. A arc a310 would OBLITERATE a 5950x in transcode 😛

Not really. Especially if you have no backup.
