Hi all,

I've not been on this forum in a long time, it's nice to be back!

Getting straight to the point, I'm looking to upgrade my CPU cooler. I'm running a AMD Ryzen 7 3800x with a AMD Wraith Prism cooler. I just want to replace the cooler (or just the fan on the Wraith cooler if possible) to something way quieter even when the CPU is under load. My setup is a mATX build so space is limited somewhat but I think I could have up to about 10-11cm of clearance or maybe a bit more if I remove some case fans from the side and moved them to the top of the case. I've attached photos so you can see the space I'm working with.

For a bit more context, temps for my CPU while playing games are fine, no issues really but my goodness the fan does my head in! Over the last 4-5 years I've been using my desktop I've mostly played games with headphones on so it's not really been an issue but recently I've installed Steam OS and moved the PC into the living room to run on my TV full time now. Now I've moved it down there my wife and I have been getting irritated with the CPU fan ramping up and down constantly even when the games we play are paused or after we've closed a game when temps drop to idle temp. Like I said the CPU temps are fine, they drop down to 30-40 degrees but it's as if there is no fan curve to smooth out spikes (which there is, I've played for hours in the BIOS to get the curve to be as quiet as possible) just 4-5 seconds quiet low RPM then 1-2 seconds super loud in a constant loop! I've tried ever now and then to get it to chill the f out but no luck. I just want my PC to be as quiet as possible now.

Any and all thoughts, recommendations would be super appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Matt

I mean, if you want to just "be done with" dealing with a loud cooler, going extremely overkill to something like a Noctua NH-D15 is an option.

EDIT - I hadn't looked at the photos yet. The width of the case won't let a Noctua NH-D15 in. An NH-L9x65 is probably the best bet you have unless you wanted to try to force a 240mm radiator where the case fans are.

(For anyone having issues with the photos, try GIMP. It can convert to sRGB from whatever proprietary format these photos are in)

HEIC Pictures dont embed here. Recapture with jpg by switching to "Most Compatible" on the capture formats on the camera app would help to show it properly for the forums. But i digress, its one of those SFF cube, is that an NR200 by Cooler Master?

In terms of fitment it could barely fit the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120. NH-D15 is a tad taller than that so it might not fit.
